Guest guest
You have as good a grasp as most and I applaud your patience to take the slow and steady approach. I have long argued for the long term view of such matters. You raise the obvious conundrum between %CR and our bodies establishment of a new equilibrium weight upon changing energy balance. The dietary twin is IMO an exercise in attaching metrics to individual dietary approaches and depends upon some arbitrary reference. I suspect there is more (mostly non-human) data than understanding of the mechanism called CR and about the only thing we all (most) can agree about is that less than most typical people eat is better, as long as you manage to avoid becoming deficient in some useful vitamin, mineral, whatever nutrient. Study but don't expect to find simple answers because I don't believe anybody has them (yet). Maybe if we live long enoungh, we'll live to learn the answers to some of these intrigueing questions. In the meanwhile do no harm. Slow and steady, with good nutrition is good... I am also an advocate of exercise, but don't make any longevity claims for it. Quality of life is good enough to make ny run... Oh yeah, and don't drink and shop...JR On Oct 7, 2007, at 2:30 PM, brent92663 wrote:Hello folks.I am 6'2" 217 pounds with "light activity" I want to do CR correctly, and slowly as advised.I am using the calculator at : http://www.scientificpsychic.com/health/cron1.htmlCan someone help me understand this:BMR for control twin with BMI of 22.0 ---1797ontrol BMR times Activity Factor (Control Calories) ---2470Control Calories minus Actual Calories ---670 Your Percentage of Calorie Restriction: 27.1 %CR I would imagine the healthiest way to obtain a 22 BMI, would be to make my calories equal to 2470 per day? then slowly as x approaches infiniti, i would obtain a 22.0 BMI, of course as i approach i would drop my BMI goal to a bit lower?Basically, I am looking to GET STARTED NOW.. while I read and learn.I was figuring three 800 calorie meals per day, containing loads of veggies, some nuts, fush, eggs, fruit.Would this be a good place for me to start as I read the 3 major CR books? Thanks for your input.Brent
Guest guest
Thank you for your response. So does it seem to make sense to begin at 2400 calories per day? And adjust? It seems high to me.. But I am all about slow, after reading the research.. > > > Hello folks. > > > > I am 6'2 " 217 pounds with " light activity " I want to do CR correctly, > > and slowly as advised. > > > > I am using the calculator at : > > http://www.scientificpsychic.com/health/cron1.html > > > > Can someone help me understand this: > > > > BMR for control twin with BMI of 22.0 ---1797 > > ontrol BMR times Activity Factor (Control Calories) ---2470 > > Control Calories minus Actual Calories ---670 > > Your Percentage of Calorie Restriction: 27.1 %CR > > > > I would imagine the healthiest way to obtain a 22 BMI, would be to > > make > > my calories equal to 2470 per day? then slowly as x approaches > > infiniti, i would obtain a 22.0 BMI, of course as i approach i would > > drop my BMI goal to a bit lower? > > > > Basically, I am looking to GET STARTED NOW.. while I read and learn. > > > > I was figuring three 800 calorie meals per day, containing loads of > > veggies, some nuts, fush, eggs, fruit. > > > > Would this be a good place for me to start as I read the 3 major CR > > books? > > > > Thanks for your input. > > > > Brent > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Try it and see what happens for a few weeks. It will be difficult enough managing the nutrition and coming up with foods you like. If after a fair trial the weight loss is too high adjust up. If weight loss moderate, steady as she goes. Rapid weight loss may lead the body to think it's starving despite carrying around months of body fat it could live off. While some may argue that CR is all about inducing a limited starving response, if you do it while overweight you may slow down weight loss. Good luck.JROn Oct 7, 2007, at 5:04 PM, brent92663 wrote:Thank you for your response. So does it seem to make sense to begin at 2400 calories per day? And adjust? It seems high to me.. Guest guest
Brent, Although 2400 calories may seem like a lot, that may be the right amount for you because you are quite tall. While you are adjusting your diet, I would suggest eating a Zone-like diet with 30% protein, 30% fat, and 40% carbohydrates. Some people who have lost weight rapidly without paying attention to the protein content of their food have lost bone density. Track the nutrients of your new diet to make sure that you are getting adequate minerals and vitamins using free software like CRON-o-Meter (http://spaz.ca/cronometer/).
