Happy New Year!

My husband and I had the opportunity to bring our girls to Disney for the

holidays, and absolutely fell in love with the Orlando area. We had been

down there back in 2005 during the summer months, but didn't give it much

consideration since our future plans included moving to Arizona. However,

after looking into services available for the disabled, we quickly had to

give up that dream upon learning that a vast majority of my benefits would

be lost once Steve obtained a job. Regardless, the idea of moving to a

warmer climate has remained, and, mainly due to the cost of housing and the

climate year round, Florida is quickly winning over our hearts. Does anyone

have an idea as to the services available in Florida, or can anyone lead me

in the right direction as to learn of such information? I have already been

advised that the state has Medicare/Medicaid, but my biggest concern is PA

services. Does Florida operate an Office of Rehab Services? Thanks for the

insight...

Amy,

We are in Tampa, Florida and my husband has been able to access services through

the state of Florida's Vocational Rehabilitation because he works part time.? He

still receives SSDI but the part time component allowed them to put all the

computerized driving equipment and? ramp into the caravan we purchased.? As far

as PA services, he has some of that too but we pay privately because our income

is too high.? We understand there is something called " Medicaid Waiver " for

in-home services but have never been able to benefit from that due to our

income.? The State Voc Rehab should be able to send you in the right direction

for that but BE WARNED (!).? Those people are slow and the squeaky wheel

definitely gets the grease.? Be prepared to put a lot of energy into it!? Best

of Luck!?
