Guest guest
http://tinyurl.com/b7qm5 Commentary: Mercury no more Studies prove that it's a danger; N.M. must ban it in vaccines By K. Stoller February 7, 2006 We know mercury is deadly to humans, and we're working to eliminate exposure to this element. That effort should include removing the mercury-based vaccine preservative called thimerosal. Six other states have already restricted its use, including New York and California. Thimerosal has a pathetic history. It was tested once over 75 years ago by the company that invented it, Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical. They studied the effect it had on 22 adults dying of meningitis. The patients were all dead by the end of the experiment, but amazingly, thimerosal was pronounced " safe " and later grandfathered in after the creation of the Food and Drug Administration. In 2004, amid the growing controversy over mercury use in vaccines, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention directed the Institute of Medicine to produce a study clearing thimerosal. They actually ignored all the toxicological studies showing that thimerosal is a deadly additive in announcing their findings and used easily flawed and manipulated population studies to " prove " it is safe when injected into babies. Thimerosal is the subject of House Bill 271 in the New Mexico Legislature. We have the chance to remove thimerosal from our children's vaccines. More and more evidence is linking it to a host of neurological disorders. Well-credentialed scientists, such as Mady Hornig of Columbia University, Jill of the University of Arkansas and Boyd Haley of the University of Kentucky, have produced research that shows that thimerosal has no place in vaccines. In 1999, our federal government finally added up all the mercury kids were getting as the vaccine program expanded the number of recommended immunizations. They realized the total was over 100 times the Environmental Protection Agency limit for mercury exposure. They then asked, but didn't mandate, that vaccine makers eliminate it. In the face of the lack of federal oversight, shouldn't New Mexico's Legislature err on the side of caution and vote to protect our children from mercury? The vaccine makers were warned seven years ago to stop using thimerosal. It's time for New Mexico to act.
