Guest guest
I don't know about a connection between over eating and Asperger's...but if the child has any sensory issues, sometimes not knowing when to regulate or when to stop eating can be an issue. Guest guest
Exactly Pam. can eat & eat then want dessert for few minutes later. He says he's not fulll yet. I tell him you don't wat to get full which I know he is. He makes me full watching him eat all this food. Maybe that's part of his stomach problems. Guest guest
Now, that is the best answer I have ever heard on the subject. I never thought of anything close to it. Probably because it's simple, and direct. I think you may have hit on a good point, there, Pam. Guest guest
I don't know (officially) if I'm Asperger's or not, but either you have been looking over my shoulder for a long, long time or this is, as other Mom's have stated, definitely an Aspie trait. Guest guest
My son doesn't know when he's full. So we have to limit his amount. No more than x # corndogs/sandwhiches/etc in a sitting. He also doesn't always know when he's hungry. Especially if playing video games or interested in something. So I have to remind him to eat -- or he'll wait til he's about ready to pass out with hunger (his first clue he's hungry when his mind is focused). I don't know if this is an aspie trait. Guest guest
Hi all, My 6 year old son doesn't eat too much unless it's something he really likes like turkey burgers, salmon teriyaki with white rice, pizza and a few others. He is 6 years old and 4'3 " but I have to stop him from eating sometimes, especially white rice which I don't even really want him to eat at all. He will get angry so I give him 1 extra spoonful and then I start cutting fruit to turn off his appetite. Sensory issues may enter into it, just like my son is underresponsive to pain. He's not on any meds so I know that isn't a factor. Since my son has some low tone and doesn't really like to engage in lots of physical activity, I feel I have to give him guidelines for portiion size or he will become overweight. Guest guest
As soon as walks into the door from school he wants a meal not a snack so I give him a lg drink with 3 cookies or fruit cut up with a piece of cheese then to take his mind off food I let him hang out with my son who he loves. age 38 is head injuried from a truck accident. He has about the same mentility as , which is good considering the long months in a coma. He also lives with us. wants seconds all the time so I have him wait until I am done eating then he can have more but I control how much. I serve his second helping on a smaller plate. I make him drink a full glass of water while he waits for me to finish my meal. He doesn;t realize when he is full. Sensory issue?? I have talked to his PCP & his pysch about it without getting any answers now I willl talk to this GI tomorrow.Take care,Betty wordDrag0n <wordDrag0n@...> wrote: My son doesn't know when he's full. Guest guest
Good thing you are starting to limit his portions now Deb. It's a stuggle with Jnnathan age 14 because he is old enough to get his own food. I don't think he is overweight thought but I still have to watch him. He is 5ft 7in & weights 167lbs. Guest guest
My daughter would binge eat pizza, crackers, or milk. I thought she did not know when she was hungry/full at first. But then I had to beg her to eat other foods. For her it turns out she craved certain foods and would binge. Since started the gfcf diet she does not binge. But I do still have to draw her attention to whether she is hungry or full sometimes. Guest guest
binges on all foods. He is always hungry. He wants to eat a snack right after he eats a meal. But we don't let him. He always says he's hungry even after a big meal. I really don't think he knows what FULL is. I tell him that he doesn't have to eat untill he is sick. He says he has to eat & be full. He just doesn't get it. Sigh....... Betty jennifer_thorson <jennifer_thorson@...> wrote: My daughter would binge eat pizza, crackers, or milk. Guest guest
Think it must be an Aspie trait. I think mine knows when he's full (Sometimes he says he is when he should be), but it just tastes/feels so good that it becomes a compulsion to keep eating until he's miserable. Mine frequently binges on certain things (pasta/dairy) until he has a stomachache. I have to regulate how much of these things he has access to. He will literally wipe out a gallon of milk in a few hours if I let him. If we go for Chinese I have to make him order a la carte. He'll make himself sick on the buffet. His latest obsession is Strawberry Yo-Gos. He'll eat the whole box before we even get back home from the grocery. But he's not a total binge eater either. Some things he could care less about. Typical junk food (cookies, snack cakes, potato chips) are 100% safe with him. I actually have to ENCOURAGE him to have a few chips with his sandwich. I've read in a few books that GF/CF diets can be beneficial to Aspies with this problem, as I saw a few other people post here, but we have not started exploring that avenue yet. If he's involved in his " special interests " which is anything related to the computer, gameboy, or drawing, I have to make him stop to eat. He just won't otherwise. He also goes thru large appetite swings. (Won't eat hardly anything for a few days, then can't get full for a few), but I took these as normal pre-adolescent boy growth spurts. Guest guest
Hello. I have been on caloric restriction for about 3 years (Since I was 19). Now, it has seems, I have developed some kind of binge eating disorder where occassionally I will just eat a huge amount of unhealthy food in a very short period of time for no reason whatsoever. I have noticed that this is brought on particularly by insomnia or alcohol consumption. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong? Normally I would binge on things like cookies and ice cream and pretzels. I really have no or limited control during these periods so this is accumpanied by a very strange mental state. Normally I do quite well and have no hunger problems. This does not seem to be related to hunger. I have not had this problem before. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate them. Thank you.
