If you are GFCF you can't use whey protein - it is the part of milk left when cheese is made and has lots of casein left in it. > > BTW, I began chelation yesterday with Chemet 100mg every 4 hrs and so > far, no problems. Guest guest
Kirkman Labs had ImmunePro Rx undenatured whey tested for casein and it was found to be over 20% casein. However, it should be noted that according to Bill Shaw there are two types of casein -- one that ASD kids can convert into exorphins and one that doesn't. It depends upon the genetics of the cows. We have used the ImmunePro Rx on our son and he does seem to have more energy (generally he's on the more sedate side) with no spaciness or evidence of other allergic response. The difficulty in giving it is that it needs to be done on an empty stomach with no food given until at least 1/2 hour later. If you're going to try an undenatured whey, give a micro-amount first to see if there's any reaction and then increase the dose very slowly. Also, I believe Andy has expressed concern that people with already high cysteine levels could be put at risk by consuming whey. Guest guest
Gretchen, Thrilled to hear you were able to do a light workout! Was there any wheat or gluten in the whey shake? Peanuts are bad for allergies - often have mold. . . . Check the peanut butter ingredients for sugar, dextrose, etc. . . . Guest guest
Gretchen - That's totally how this illness is, too. It will get better in time, and probably you'll see improvements when the season changes to spring or summer. I think it's a good sign that you are at least having spells where you feel like your old self - because before you just continued to get worse. Winter hasn't been that great for me - symptoms acting up here and there, but I'm definitely better than I was last winter. I had joint pain for about a week in February, and now I've got dizziness and that pain in the side of my head that I used to have. I'm looking to buy a two person far infrared sauna. My husband is being a bit of a fly in the ointment about buying one - but I will get one. If I spent all that money on getting sick, then I can spend a fraction of that to help me get better. He thinks that regular steam saunas are better for your health, but I will print out some data for him on infrared saunas - just like I printed out the information on this site when he didn't believe implants were making me sick. Guest guest
Gretchen, When I was so sick, I forgot what it was like to feel normal . .. then I had a problem and was given a steroid medication . .. All of a sudden, I felt like myself . . . I was so excited. It meant that my body had the capacity for feeling normal again! . . . That was the incentive I needed to keep working on getting better . .. because I wanted to feel that way all the time . . And I do! . . . I'm sure you will too . . . But you've still got some work to do. Hugs, Rogene

Guest guest
Are these foods that were suggested to you by Dr. Kolb? Some people have reactions to different food combinations. It could be that the combination was too much for your system after being so ill. Guest guest
I just thought of something, Gretchen. There were certain peanut butters that were recalled very recently because they made people sick. You might want to do a Google search to find out if your peanut butter was one of them. Guest guest
Gretchen: I agree with the previous comments about the whey protein shake (may be too rich for your stomach, peanut butter not being so great). I wanted to add that bananas might be a culprit too. You probably need to be on an anti-Candida diet right now, at least at first, which means restricting things like dairy and avoiding high carb foods. You want to avoid foods like bananas that are high on the glycemic index (turn to sugar quickly in your body). I was eating a banana while driving and suddenly starting feeling so sleepy I didn't think I was going to be able to continue driving without losing control of the car. I read somewhere that people with systemic candida infections had problems with driving as they felt "drunk"--it had something to do with the yeast. When I was really ill (before being explanted) there were a couple of times where I almost went off the road while driving. Also, I do whey protein myself, but I'm torn about it. One reason being that Jordan Rubin, author of The Maker's Diet doesn't recommend it as it can be full of toxins, hormones, etc.). Also, when Dr. Kolb was showing me a diagram about biotoxins that Dr. Shoemaker had created, it said in large writing "No whey." When I asked her about, worried of course about the shakes I'd been drinking, she said not to worry. To be on the safe safe, especially while you're so sick, if you're going to do the whey shakes, try Bio Pure from Metagenics or Garden of Life's Goatein powder. Guest guest
Here's my second question. One reason, I think, that I have been able to retain muscle mass even while consuming only 2K calories per day is that I get a lot of protein, most of it from whey protein powder (the kind with no hydrogenated fats, almost no sugar, and balanced amino acid profile). Most of the rest of my protein comes from fish (usually salmon, 4-5 oz.). Would list members consider whey protein a high-quality, nutrient dense food? I have to admit that every time I open up the jar of the stuff, it strikes me as a kind of ultimate synthetic food. But it's extremely convenient. I have it for breakfast with soy milk, a banana, five grams creatine, and a quarter teaspoon of glucosamine. Thanks. Shape in your own image. Join our Network Research Panel today! Guest guest
I've used whey protein on and off, but recently I decided it may not be a good idea due to the small amount of oxidized cholesterol it may contain. WAPF says that powdered milk is to be avoided because it has oxidized cholesterol, and it's plausible that what little cholesterol is in whey protein powders is mostly (if not fully) oxidized due to the processing. Any comments on this notion? I'm thinking of switching to pure BCAA powder instead. Tom

I've been buying cold-filtered whey protein isolate from them for several years. I get just the plain whey protein and add my own flavorings, coconut milk, water, and sweetener. When I eat it, at the same time I also eat the other components of milk it comes combined with out of cow/goat/sheep udders. It comes in a nice liquid form, which often gets thick after fermenting into clabber or kefir. I get the milk from farms that raise the animals on grass and don't process the milk in any way besides filtering and chilling. So it's very high quality. Usually I pay about $4 per gallon for cow milk, so it's reasonably priced as well, even arguably one of the least expensive foods I could eat.
