Oh Alana,

My thoughts are with you! I really hope you can be d/c before Xmas! I've

spent every holiday (plus my birthday) in the hospital, and it just isn't the

same as celebrating at home. I hope the drs can solve this problem

non-invasively, so there are no worries about anesthesia. Sending you positive

vibes!

Hi All,

Thank you, , for posting this, and thank you to everyone who have

been sending " good vibes " whether electronic ore telepathic. ;-)

Last night I was finally able to chew and swallow more than

microbites, so my strength has increased by quite a lot. Also, I

haven't needed pain medication since about 2:30 a.m. (it's now 11:00

a.m.) so am alert and not in need of my ventilator unless I'm sleeping

or towards the end of the day. We're still waiting for the infection

to get under control. My fever broke last night; then we'll decide if

we're going to do kidney stone fishing or outright surgery.

Thank you for you're support, everyone!

Hi Folks,

I was admitted to Alta Bates Hospital on Friday night with an

obstruction in my right kidney. Fortunately, it isn't as painful as

last time so I'm not needing much in the way of pain medication and my

appetite is good.

After a CT scan, an x-ray, and an ultrasound, it seems the next step

is to inject dye into my kidney, better see where the kidney stones

are, try to fish them out, and place a stent (narrow tube) in my

ureter between my kidney and bladder to drain everything. They will

only place a stent if my kidney doesn't drain on it's own. This

procedure is scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) at 10:30 a.m. and

doesn't require general anesthesia, which is great! I suspect it'll

be uncomfortable, but the department that is doing the procedure is

very good at managing pain using a sedative and some pain medications.

They're the same team that puts my in my IV line. I trust them a lot

and am grateful that Chuck and Beth will be there as my official

bodyguards/pit bulls. :-)

I'm probably getting out of the hospital Saturday or Sunday if all

goes smoothly, and we expect it will. Thank you for all of your

support and encouragement. Chuck thinks I might be allergic to

Christmas (!). Hmmm...
