Guest guest Posted July 25, 2008 Report Share Posted July 25, 2008 Hi folks: Here is the opposing side of the 'drink plenty of water' argument that was linked in the earlier post (below): http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7521137.stm The reconciliation of these two, superficially contradictory, pieces of advice seems to be this: On the one hand, clearly, an enormous water intake is unhelpful and can even be fatal. But on the other, it does seem that the 'dehydration alert mechanism' (thirst) doesn't work as effectively in elderly people. So it may be necessary for them to drink rather more than they think they need.
