Dear Governor Lingle,

I am writing to you to express my favorable opinion concerning Hawaii's bill to reduce mercury in vaccines, SB 2133. This bill is vital to protect our children against the known neurotoxin ethylmercury (thimerosal).

Recently completed chemical research led by the University of Washington examined ethylmercury (vaccines) exposure in primates compared to methylmercury (tuna) exposure. The study published in 2005 found that the federal government tuna mercury (methylmercury) standard of 0.01 micrograms per kilogram of body weight being "borrowed" to determine thimerosal safety is not a valid substitute.

Sadly, at this present time there is no federal safe ethylmercury exposure standard. Still thimerosal is still allowed in vaccines. You should be aware that two separate citizen's petitions filed with the Environmental Protection Agency which require the agency to prove the safety of thimerosal have been "lost", making any government safety claim for thimerosal completely unsubstantiated based solely on perceptions.

In fact, the Burbacher group found that, although ethylmercury from vaccinations cleared the bloodstream faster than tuna mercury did, the mercury type that does brain damage, inorganic mercurial mercury, remained behind in the brains of primates and accumulates to quite excessive levels. The study also determined that the inorganic mercurial mercury in the brains of the thimerosal primates was ever increasing when the study ran out of monkeys. In essence, mercury blood levels are not valid indicators of actual body burden of ethylmercury except in cases of almost immediate exposures, and as consensus among chemist and toxicologist has always been "out of the blood does not mean out of the body".

Governor, we all have some understanding of mercury. In our states and local communities a spill of just a few splashes of mercury requires a safety response including full chem suits and area evacuations. In the time it takes for hazardous materials teams to clean up a mercury spill hundreds if not thousands can be effected by it. It makes complete sense to phase out mercury from schools and the workplace. Certainly knowing that mercury is this toxic to the body makes injecting it into our infants and toddlers unthinkable in terms of what dangers this presents.

I am among many parents across the United States working diligently to insure that tomorrow's children do not face a life-time battle with vaccine-induced autism as ours do. If you think about it for just a moment, why on earth would these parents be going to all the trouble of getting rid of mercury from vaccines? After all the damage is already been done to our children. Well, it's because our children have been mercury poisoned by the thimerosal, and we do not wish this to happen to any more American children.

So please think about our children. We ask you do the right thing for them by signing SB 2133.

Contact your friend, colleagues or relatives who live in Hawaii and ask them to send a message to Lingle stating your strong Support of SB 2133 and for protecting Hawaii's children by reducing mercury content in vaccines.
