Guest guest
Just wondered if anyone knew if use of The Vest for lung health was compatible with having ports in the chest (for antibiotics, chemo, and blood draws, etc)? I was wondering if the pounding of the Vest would mess up ports? Thanks!
Guest guest
I have no experience with having ports in the chest, but I have used The Vest in the past. In general, I found the machine to be excessively violent to an SMA body - and I consider myself to be on the stronger side. I couldn't deal with the constant beating from The Vest that would leave my torso sore and my muscles exhausted even after only 20 minutes of use. Additionally, it made breathing very difficult while using the machine. The Vest would beat the breath out of me before I could fully inhale. For me, there are better alternatives for airway clearance. <3Kendra > > Just wondered if anyone knew if use of The Vest for lung health was > compatible with having ports in the chest (for antibiotics, chemo, and > blood draws, etc)? > > I was wondering if the pounding of the Vest would mess up ports? > > Thanks! >
Guest guest
You can vary the pressure and frequency of the vest. I think it would be ok if the actual vest jacket wasn't directly over the port and you weren't doing very high settings (it can really shake you). I actually had a central line and was able to do the vest. If you have any other ?'s I'd be glad to help. Guest guest
I agree, if you use a high pressure and high frequency the Vest can be very violent to the body (my guy friends found it amusing to shake the hell out of themselves), but I am able to tolerate as high as a pressure of 5 and frequency up to 12, and its effective enough to break up secretions. I'd consider myself on the weaker side compared to Kendra. Guest guest
I honestly have no idea, I would contact the company directly to get their views on it. I know when Brett used it, they provided us with foam inserts to go around his Mic-Key button site to prevent irritation. Guest guest
\The vest SUCKS! I was forced to do it as a kid/teen, and knowing how expensive they were/are I didnt want to throw it away so I tried to donate mine neither MDA, Easter Seals, Lions Club, U of M, NOBODY would let me donate my machine and I needed to get it out of my life I hated that damn thing! I did have a PICC line at one point and all it did was irritate it. jj Re: The Vest compatible with ports? I have no experience with having ports in the chest, but I have used The Vest in the past. Guest guest
These work for me to drop kick phlem out of my lungs without cracking bones or assaulting me like the vest did. Using a polar fleece blanket or thick towel over boney areas help get the muccous out without pain or injury If you're stuck in a pinch even wrapping a throw away vibrating tooth brush in a towel will have enough vibration to break up lung congestion. http://www.amazon.com/Homedics-PM-R2-Hand-Massager-Colors/dp/B000QTQYZK/\ ref=pd_bxgy_hpc_img_b <http://www.amazon.com/Homedics-PM-R2-Hand-Massager-Colors/dp/B000QTQYZK\ /ref=pd_bxgy_hpc_img_b> http://www.amazon.com/Homedics-PM-QUAD-Massager-Multiple-Accents/dp/B000\ QTT1SC/ref=sr_1_4/176-3555954-4063632?ie=UTF8 & s=hpc & qid=1224900694 & sr=1-\ 4 <http://www.amazon.com/Homedics-PM-QUAD-Massager-Multiple-Accents/dp/B00\ 0QTT1SC/ref=sr_1_4/176-3555954-4063632?ie=UTF8 & s=hpc & qid=1224900694 & sr=1\ -4> I hope this is helpful > > > > Just wondered if anyone knew if use of The Vest for lung health was > > compatible with having ports in the chest (for antibiotics, chemo, and > > blood draws, etc)? > > > > I was wondering if the pounding of the Vest would mess up ports? > > > > Thanks! > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
I put a thick towel or polar fleece blanket between boney ribs and what ever method of chest PT is happening so the precussion works on the lungs while not bruising or hurting me in the process. People with SMA don't have the same muscle mass abled bods do to protect their bones and skin from precussions. > > > > > > > > Just wondered if anyone knew if use of The Vest for lung health was > > > > compatible with having ports in the chest (for antibiotics, chemo, > > and > > > > blood draws, etc)? > > > > > > > > I was wondering if the pounding of the Vest would mess up ports? > > > > > > > > Thanks! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
