Similar decisions are now being made about flu shots, should a pandemic break out and vaccine supplies limited.Should healthy, elderly folks go to the head of the line or should young persons with a full life ahead of them get first dibs on vaccines? Bioethicists at the National Institutes of Health have argued the younger, healthier people should get priority on flu shots.Writing in the journal Science, Drs. Ezekiel Emanuel and Alan Wertheimer said the young person should get the vaccine because he or she has not had the opportunity to live and develop through all stages of life. Here are the recommendations being studied as part of the government's preparation against a pandemic: The Associated Press reports vaccine factory workers and health care workers would be first, people up to age 64 who have at least two high-risk health conditions would be second, next would be pregnant women and those who come into contact with those who have poor immune systems. Next would be key government leaders and healthy people over age 65.At the end of the list -- after funeral directors -- are healthy people age 2 to 64. Love cheap thrills?
