Speaking of labels

I've had a habit of keeping a couple of quick frozen dinners in the freezer

for emergencies. Tonight because my husband wasn't eating with me and

because a couple of these had been in the freezer probably past their prime,

I took one out for dinner.

In the past, you could buy a " Healthy Choice " brand and be fairly secure

that it was low in calories, fat and unhealthy junk. Not any more. As I

was heating this, I read the label and was appalled at the high fructose

corn syrup (high up there in the list) high amount of salt, sugar, and other

garbage in this (what I thought was benign) simple shrimp and veggies meal.

Read ingredients carefully.

Francesca,Thank you for posting this important information. I had a similar experience yesterday when I opened a package of "organic" oatmeal and flaxseed hot cereal from Trader Joes. My first taste stunned me...it was so sweet. I checked the label and the second ingredient was listed as "cane concentrate" and didn't say "sugar cane". I usually trust TJs but that label was really deceptive. Also the I wonder if they are not overusing the term "organic".Keep up the good posts.MJOn Nov 18, 2008, at 3:05 PM, Francesca Skelton wrote:I've had a habit of keeping a couple of quick frozen dinners in the freezerfor emergencies. I had the same experience. I naturally assumed " healthy " meant healthy

but once I saw all the sugar and salt I put it straight into the

garbage. Now I always read the labels. Another thing that gets me is

when a box boldly proclaims " no trans fats! " but a look at the list of

ingredients shows partially hydrogenated oils!
