Guest guest
It’s a small country with a horrible climate and 6 months of darkness. Hence the name “Iceland”. There are two seasons, cold and colder. I would bet that they don’t get a lot of transplants. Interestingly in the book I read (“The Geography of Bliss”), Icelanders imbibe a lot during the long dark winter. But it doesn’t seem to affect their longevity. Which reminds me of that one study where the men that drank 3-5 glasses of wine a day lived the longest. Hmmmmm. _____________ From: " m.spinnewin " <merlinspinnewin@...: What about non-icelandic men living in Iceland? For example japanese men living in the US live shorter lives than japanese men living in Japan .
Guest guest
I can only tell you that its’ reputation is not that of a Shangri-La. And that the author of the book I cited found the environment non-inviting, although the people were friendly. Perhaps the web description is overblown to attract more visitors? I have never been there and I suspect most world travelers don’t put it on their itinerary. (I have many friends who travel the world and I have yet to hear that any went to Iceland). But the larger, more important issue is that Icelanders drink a lot and yet live long – long enough to be notedwothy. And are among the world’s happiest people. This is because the Icelandic coastal weather is tempered by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream. The city's coastal location does, however, also mean it is prone to wind, and gales are common in winter. Reykjavik is also a very wet city, having on average 213 rainy days out of the year, with spring having slightly more sunny days. > > It’s a small country with a horrible climate and 6 months of darkness. > Hence the name “Iceland”.
