Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I started Kalawalla a month ago. I have not noticed any improvement as yet. It does work great for getting rid of a cold. I had a very bad cold and it was gone in two days. MY husband and daughter have both used Kalawalla for colds and it also helped them. I guess it is too soon to know if it is going to help the MS . I can only hope and pray it does. Take care all, Sally
Guest guest
Hi Sally, Are you taking it with LDN or on its own? Guest guest
, In our Files section, there is a list of supplements that some people with CMT take. For me personally, other than the dissolved solids in my water (calcium, magnesium and collodial silica), I take 1000 IU of Vitamin E and a B and C complex. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Thanks Gretchen. Any opinion on Omega?
Guest guest
Hi , Do you mean the " Omega 3s " ? Not an opinion, but my experience, all my friends at the gym were pushing me to take the Omegas. Now people who know me well, know better than to do this. However, I checked them out with my Internist, who discussed my diet and nutrition with me, and since I have a diet already high enough in Omega's, supplements are unecessary. I was thinking about all your stress in the last year and wondered if your doctor had mentioned anything about Iron supplementation (depending if you need it or not) My own experience during a very stressful time was that my Iron count was extremely low, so for a few years, at the suggestion of my doc, I took 2 tablets of Blackstrap Iron each day. (same as Blackstrap Molasses) It got my Iron count back where it should be. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi , I had the same problem, hair etc. I started taking Centrum Silver and Reliv a powder drink actual 3 kinds. The doctor said the hair loss could be due to pain medication I take daily my hormone level was fine. The drink contains minerals, beta carotene, vit A and C.My hair loss truly slowed down to a normal daily loss and my skin appears less dry. I think the product has to be purchased from a rep. or on line. I mix my drink with different juices and take it twice a day. Let me know if you try it, I am sure you can get some samples. Guest guest
Gretchen, Yes, Omega 3's. I hadn't thought about Iron. I'll ask my doc about it. Thanks. I'm the first to admit my diet sucks. I never truly feel hungry. Some days it will be bedtime and I realize I haven't eaten all day. Not good I know.
Guest guest
Thanks Joyce. I'll research Reliv.
Guest guest
Gretchen, Do you think I should start my son on some type of supplements? I am really concerned. He is very strong and can bench press lots of weight with his legs. He can walk on his toes and can walk on his heels. Anything else I should look for? Jackie
Guest guest
Hi Jackie, I cannot advise you to give your son supplements or not. A good doctor, or team of doctors, like I had as a teen, were the first to suggest my supplementation of a certain Potassium, and this was meant for me ONLY, at that time, too. My supplements since and currently have ALL been OK'ed by my Internist. I would suggest you meet with your son's doctor (along with your son) and ask questions about supplementation with C, E, Creatine, ALA, Magnesium and others. ~ Gretchen

Guest guest
According to Dr. Walford, he recommends " half or full RDA amounts of most vitamins and minerals...larger doses of E, C, ....... " What is the best approach? A good multi-vitamin and then add more E, C, Selenium, B6, folic acid, B12? What is everyone doing? I am confused. Please help. Guest guest
It’s best to try to get your vitamins from food. There’s nothing quite like the synergistic way that nature has evolved to get the right combo of nutrients into us – at least not yet. In some of our past discussions we’ve noted studies where nutrients are sometimes not useful in a pill or capsule as they are in food. Also too much of certain nutrients are harmful, not helpful. See: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7349980.stm That said there are a very few nutrients that I do supplement with. I take fish oil, D3, and a K pill once a week (since K is so rare in food). I expect that everyone here has a different individual take on this subject. Jeff posted a few months ago about healthy centenarians who were deficient in some nutrients. IOW micro-managing your nutrients may not be as important as we previously thought. Search our archives for past posts about vitamins and supplements. Go to the home page and put “vitamins” or “supplements” in the search box and you will get our past discussions.
Guest guest
Thank you Bruce and Rodney for your responses to my post on Vitamin K. Also, the study that Bruce posted re: K-2 was very helpful. I note that both of you get your K-2 from real natto rather than supplements. (BTW, I did read all the prior posts on " supplements " on the forum.) Adding real natto to my diet would be somewhat of a problem for me and I would prefer to use a supplement to supply the necessary K-2 in my diet. Searching on the Internet, I noted that there are supplements that are labled " Natto " and some are labled K- 2, and are derived from natto extract. Also noted that the supplement company quoted in the study that Bruce posted (NattoPharm) makes a K-2 called MenaQ7. Given all of the above, would anyone have any suggestions for one who would prefer to get their K-2 from supplements rather than eating packages of natto periodically? Thank you all for your help! Guest guest
lef.org has an 'Super K2 Complex " that gives 1000mcg of K2. If all you are going for is the VitK why endure the taste and expense of natto for less?? http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2004/mar2004_aas_01.htm --- In , " Ed Urbanski " <eurbanski@...> wrote: > > Thank you Bruce and Rodney for your responses to my post on Vitamin > K. Guest guest
Orania, I have a recessive type of CMT 2. I take 1000 IU of Vitamin E daily. No other supplements. I drink Fijiwater (about 1.5 liters) per day, which has silica, calcium and magnesium in it. Gretchen
Guest guest
Orania: I was diagnosed with spastic paraplegia which is the same disorder as CMT, 11 years ago. I don't take any supplements other than a multi vitamin. I have tried taking other supplements but there is no change in my symptoms from them. I had accupunture for 3 years due to monthly pain in my thighs. I do not know if accupunture was the reason it reduced and stopped the pain but it did. My disorder has platode for the past 6 years with just stiffness and weakness in my legs and weak bladder. I do take Vesicare to control the bladder and it has worked well for me. I eat a reguler diet and exercise regulary. Marin from Bridgeport, CT
