The amount of hidden adulteration has remained a problem for years but is less than in the past (remember Upton Sinclair?). I despair to ever put into practice a suggestion by an earlier poster who suggested growing one's own food. There is a farmer's market I can look into next year, baby steps maybe! NPR did a piece this morning about tainted olive oil which it has seized and

is investigating in some northern U.S states. It seems that some

manufacturers are mixing their OO with soy oil and peanut oil for more

profit. Not only is this unscrupulous, it can be dangerous to people who

are allergic to nut oils.

I expect there will be more news on this in the next few days. Is anyone

honest anymore?? Or has the whole world become greedy and corrupt?

Some time ago, I noticed the introduction of olive oil blends.

Manufacturers are trying to profit from the supposed benefits of the

Mediterranean diet which includes olive oil. However, the oil blends

do not say how much olive oil is in the product, but you can still

figure out the proportions from the information on the nutrition label.

After I saw one of these oil blends in a grocery store, I thought that

it would make a challenging puzzle for my web page:

You can peek at the answer if you don't have the inclination to solve

the puzzle.
