Guest guest
Our links are chock full of ready to go CRON recipes. All newbies are expected to read the files and links upon joining and before posting. On 8/6/09 6:23 PM, " gamuls_junk " <gamuls_junk@...> wrote: Hi, First - I would like to introduce myself. My name is Glenn and I live in the northeast (Mass) US. I am new to the CRON program, so new I have not officially started. I have been aware of CRON for a few years and have given it a lot of thought. I bought and read the 120 year book and have the anti aging book on order. I downloaded the program DWIDP. I have not officially started CRON because I am trying to plan out meals that I think I will succeed at and not jump in and give up because I did not plan well. So my goal is to start officially on September 1st. While it would be good if I lost some weight, I am not making that my goal. A weight goal always implies an end, at which point you start eating poorly again. Instead, I am making the goal eating differently, healthy food. I want to start with a goal of 1800 calories a day and see how that works for a few months, and if needed make adjustments from that, hopefully down over time. OK, now that I bored you with that... :-) I could use a little help in understanding the recipes in the DWIDP I tried entering a recipe in the program, but I ran into difficulty entering the quantity of the items and the serving size. It did not make a lot of sense and in the end I was not sure if I entered the recipe correctly. So - then I thought I would reverse engineer an existing recipe with one that is in the 120 year book. I chose the Pasta Fagioli. However - the item amounts in there do not appear to match the items in the recipe list shown in the 120 year diet book. Specifically: - White beans - 1/4 cup in book; 1 TBS in program - 6 garlic (bk) vs 4 garlic (pr) - 1 bunch basil (bk) vs 4 leafs (bk) (how much is a bunch anyway?) The nutritional data is basically the same - so I think this is the same recipe. But the items as listed do not make sense to me. I am assuming it is because I am new at this. Is there a good guide some where that can help me really understand how to use this tool? I checked out the July 2004 insider - but the intro was more about the basics of getting started. I apologize if this is a repeated question or just a dumb newbie question. I'm just stuck and hoping to get some guidance on the tool. I like the graph capabilities to check out the day, and the other aspects of the tool seem quite good. I'm just getting my butt kicked on the recipes. On a side/related note - is there another great source for good ready to go CRON recipes to work with? thanks in advance for any guidance anyone can offer. None of the links I saw touched upon my main question. Perhaps I am just not seeing where there is something about the DWIDP tool. Apologies if I am just not seeing it. As for the recipes, apologies for not mentioning those. I found many of those interesting and worth trying. Some have nutritional data, some not. But with the issue I was having with the tool on entering recipes, I am not sure I can enter the ones with no nutritional data and figure out how they fit in the plan. So I was also hoping for other sources of recipes that may also list the nutritional data. Thanks again. Glenn
Guest guest
My apologies for being a bit terse. Thank you for doing all the reading. You’d be surprised at how many newbies don’t want to be bothered and want “instant answers” by asking the group and skipping the reading. That would leave us with group with newbie posts galore and our group might not be as successful as it is. So thank you – especially since we’ve put lots of work into our files and links. All we ask is that people use them! We have had postings of late that micro-managing may not be all that it was originally cracked up to be. Jeff (one of our more knowledgeable posters) posted a study a while back about healthy centenarians having some deficiencies. Since that post I don’t worry too much about this issue as long as I’m eating a healthy diet. Thus I personally do not use any of the nutritional calculators. We do have a slew of other calculators to use in our files and you could try a different one such as Fitday, Cron-o-meter, etc. And I would be surprised if you couldn’t go back to Walford’s site and either find your answer there or be able to ask about it. BTW Welcome to the group, and please forgive me for not welcoming you in my first response!! You know teaspoons, cups, milliliters, etc. Just a bit of a quagmire of units that can be easily resolved with a bit of effort. Also notice, " Set Display Units " and " Choose Serving Size " . In fact I have very little difficulty using the program now, just have difficulty following the resulting meal plans that I get from it. :-) a=z
Guest guest
Hi Francesca - thanks for the information. I am probably over complicating the nutritional goal in terms of picking already proven good cron recipes. The tool probably works better for home made recipes to make sure it has a decent balance of nutrition. I down loaded the cron-o-meter tool to start using and can probably use the two tools to help guide my process. Thanks very much for the advice and the welcome!
