Cherish,

Actually the autism spectrum (1 in 166) does

NOT include ADD, ADHD, speech delay, etc. It only accounts for Autism,

PDD NOS, Aspergers, Rhett’s syndrome, and child disintegrative disorder.

Usually numbers are done either Autism alone or full spectrum includes all

five. If you include ADD, ADHD, speech delay the rate is 1 in 6 children

(yes I meant 1 in 6).

As for the 1 in 85…..Wasn’t

there a recent story about Oregon

and there number of ASD kids were 1 in 98. It was 1 in 80 boys.

Maybe that’s the number you heard.

If I am not mistaken, the numbers 1 in 166 include boys and girls so the ratio for boys would be a lot less than 1 in 166. Maybe that's where that 1 in 80 comes form.Chap 'n Ali <chapnalli@...> wrote: Cherish, Actually the autism spectrum (1 in 166) does NOT include ADD, ADHD, speech delay, etc. It only accounts for Autism, PDD NOS, Aspergers, Rhett’s syndrome, and child disintegrative disorder. Thanks for the info, you guys rock. I would try to contack Mr.

, but I wouldn't have much chance of getting through. He

usually is very thorough with his information, but I guess anyone

can make a mistake every now and then.

I believe it is Oregon. We lived their with our two boys (asd) before we moved

to

Sacramento. My son started out in his early child developement program/EI as a

minority

to the NT kids in his preschool class. By the time we left 14 months later, the

ASD children

were the majority of the children in the program. They started laying off the

reg ed

preschool teachers so that they could hire more autism staff.

There was a day last summer where my family was walking around the

Toledo Zoo and I told my husband, " I think the numbers are really 1 in

100 " (not 1 in 166), just because of the number of kids we saw.
