Guest guest
Carol, It is good that you track your nutrients. I should have said " nutrient deficiencies " rather than " vitamin deficiencies " in my note. There are plenty of FDA warnings about the consequences of vegetarian diets that are not properly balanced (e.g. http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/895_vegdiet.html). I suppose that we could say the same thing about an omnivorous diet. It is not easy to know when you have achieved Optimum Nutrition due to variability in food nutrients and individual absorption issues. Your use of " self-harvested sea vegetables " could expose you to excess iodine which can cause thyroid problems. Many CRONies have stopped consuming kelp and other seaweeds for this reason. There are plenty of references about this topic. Tony == Kim JY, Kim KR. Dietary iodine intake and urinary iodine excretion in patients with thyroid diseases. Yonsei Med J. 2000 Feb;41(1):22-8. This study suggests that the habitual ingestion of seaweed-containing dietary supplements in addition to dietary iodine intake will have adverse effects due to its excessive iodine intake.
