Guest guest
Hi Rodney, Micrograms per milliliter are already in metric form. I don't know why you would want to convert to moles. You would need to know the molecular weight of C reactive protein to do it. Thus you would need to understand the amino acids in CRP and the shape of the protein. Should you be able to find that information, you can calculate the molecular weight here: http://www.bioinformatics.org/sms2/protein_mw.html Diane > > Hi folks: > > Quick question, and it ought to be a simple one: > > Can anyone tell me the 'metric' units for HS c-reactive protein, and what the conversion factor is from US to metric units, please? > > In what we here call 'The WUSTL Study' CRP was measured in micrograms per millilitre. The average level in the CR practitioners was 0.3 in those units. It would be helpful to know how to convert that number to its metric equivalent, which presumably uses moles instead of grams. > > TIA. > > Rodney. >
Guest guest
Hi Diane: Most of the medical units quoted up here use moles instead of grams. I suppose the logic of that is that it relates directly to the number of molecules in the sample whereas a unit using grams does not. Vitamin D here is quoted in nmol/L, for example. Or for other tests pmol/L - but I do not remember which test. It just comes down to using 'normal solutions' as a basis for assessing things. My reason for asking is that I want to be sure I know how the CRP number I had reported in my test results a couple of years ago relates to the numbers in the WUSTL Study. It has only now occurred to me that my numbers may not have been in the same units as the WUSTL data. And I have had difficulty finding out how to convert. As for the molecular weight of CRP, I saw today a graphical representation of the structure of CRP, and it looks quite large and complicated with a five-petalled flower appearance. fwiw.
