Sponsored by the ultimate hospital group here (Houston). www.lifelinescreening.com Regards [ ] Re: Vitamin D, 25(OH)D Test Hi folks: I just noticed the following excerpt in the post below: `...... when he started an experiment taking 50,000 IU, ....... ` Just so that no one is in any doubt, I have been taking 50,000 IU ONCE EVERY TWO WEEKS. I would not want anyone to think I was taking 50,000 IU daily. Rodney.
Guest guest
Actually 4 tests, including PAD, abdominal aorta aneurysm and carotid arteries. The thought arises what do I do with those if negative? My first Actonel I think caused me to be sore all over, but ti could have been something else. Let you know next month. I find this osteopenia thing very strange since I lifted 260# Weds. 10 reps. I've decided to eat a little more protein, gain a little weight and check it again in 6 months. Regards [ ] Re: Vitamin D, 25(OH)D Test - Osteo ultasonic scan? Hi JW: I think so, yes. I assume it is the same as the ones I had done (for free) at a drug store here. You put your foot in a contraption and it measures the bone mass in your heel using ultrasound. I believe we have discussed this previously. IIRC one study was posted which found 'calcaneal' bone mass - which is what I had measured - to be more closely correlated with fractures than DXA results. When I started my *prescribed* 50,000 IU of D2 per week way back when, I had several of these scans done, and for some weeks the test number improved appreciably. Then it flattened out even though I was still taking sizeable amounts of vitamin D2. My doctor's interpretation of this was that it flattened out when my serum D had reached an acceptable level from my bones' point of view But $129 seems like highway robbery for the simple two minute test I had done.
