Fat Content of Salad Dressings

Hi folks:

I was looking at an array of salad dressings in a grocery store recently

and noticed two from the same producer. One was their regular, full

fat, dressing. The other, in large letters across the top of the label,

said: " 86% less fat " .

So I looked at the nutrition information on the back of the lower-fat

dressing, and calculated the percentage of calories in this product that

were contributed by fat.

The answer surprised me a little. It came out at 72%!

..........................

Data for one tablespoon of dressing:

Regular 86% less

---------- ---------- ------------

calories 30 5.0g

fat 3g 0.4g

----------- ---------- -----------

fat cals % 90 72

======= ====== ======

Voila!

Rodney.

Hi Jeff:

Unfortunately, I did not make a note of the brand. And right now I am located

about fifty miles from the nearest serious grocery store, so it is not easy for

me to check! Next time I am in the city I will take a look. But if you want to

find out sooner, my guess is that a quick check when you next visit a

supermarket should locate it, just by looking for the front label which

advertises " 86% less fat " !

It is possible that I saw this in Walmart. But, IIRC, it was not a Walmart

house brand.
