Guest guest
This jves with what I've read in Caldwell Esselstyn' book, and with Ornish, Barnard and T.Collin (The China Study). All recommend a very low-fat primarily plant-based diet to help prevent heart disease, cancer and diabetes. This encourage this vegetarian! Not distressed at all, I always enjoy reading the posts. Still too much of a newbie to contribute much. lc carol bill4cr wrote: It just keeps getting better for plant eaters It just dawned on me you NEVER read headlines that say smthg like "Beef prevents cancer". Always veggies and fruit in the limelight. ps where is everybody? distressing the post count is way down?? Pectin may fuel fruits' cancer-fighting ability Wed Oct 29, 2008 1:46pm EDT .. Guest guest
We have at least one study in our files which concludes that health conscious meat eaters live as long as vegetarians. Unfortunately it’s not that simple as just being vegetarian. We’ve discussed here. See the archives. He is controversial and many believe that he was not objective in his book “China Study”. Guest guest
I guess that would depend on what you call a 'meat eater " ? One could eschew meat altogether eating all plants and live a nice long life. But can I eat all meat living as long? Very little meat may be beneficial for whatever ill-defined reasons at present, but does a lot of meat in one's diet promote longevity as does a predominance of plants in one's diet? Whole food natural unrefined plants seems to be protective, the more the better and a lot of current 'press' backs this up. But how much BEEF is protective and why? Many questions need be answered. > > > > > > > > It just keeps getting better for plant eaters > > > > It just dawned on me you NEVER read headlines that say smthg like > > " Beef prevents cancer " . Guest guest
I think you’re overstating the case. A richly varied diet is best. And this certainly can include some meat/fish in the diet. I am convinced that fish is highly desirable due to the many studies we’ve posted here. IOW I’m not a vegetarian. Neither was Walford for that matter And some of the longest lived (healthy to advanced old age) peoples in the world ,such as the older generation of Okinawans, included meat and fish in their diet. YMMV, but I’ll continue eating my fish and small amounts of meat.
