Hello Carol and any other newbies who may be confused:

Please note the change in subject heading.

I’m not sure I understand your question but I’ll try to relate our policies here. These policies are outlined on our site and in the info you received upon joining.

Our main thrust here is posting based on scientific evidence – mainly peer-reviewed studies or other mainstream scientific sources . There are many other sites for “chatting” or trading opinions, if that’s what you mean. We use scientific studies to glean how to live a long healthy life.

Required reading here is Dr Walford’s: “Beyond the 120 Year Diet”, available in most public libraries. If anyone is posting who has not read that book plus all our files and links sections, then you should not be. Reading those will give you the background to “catch up” to the rest of the group and take part in discussions.

Once can also search the archives on our site for past discussions on any topic we have already covered that may be meaningful to them (for example “vegetarian”).

These policies keep us from covering the same ground over and over and keep us from diverging into opinions, pseudo-science or silliness.

We are proud of the standards here and of the many like-minded scientific minds who choose to remain as members.

I hope that answers your question.

Hi Frances

Some of us are new here, and have not had this discussion before in this light. Is it ok to make comments or ask questions of current interest to us? Some times, for me, anyway, it helps to bounce an idea off of several " live " people, especially when it comes to practical solutions to CN. All the reading and research is for naught if we so not apply in our daily lives.

Thanks

Carol

You know where the emphasis should be as do we all. So why are we having this discussion? We all agree here (I assume) that a plant-based diet is optimal or we wouldn’t be in this group. But completely vegetarian and vegan diets aren’t the complete answer either until further evidence shows up. If you don’t trust this answer then read the files.

So what’s your BEEF? (I apologize for the bad pun). This is a rhetorical question to which I really don’t want an answer.

Subject: [ ] Re: meat, vegetable, fish

Eating mostly plants is a philosophical decision and not a nutritional

one, really?

Let;'s forgo CR for the moment (for sake of argument) and assume I am

eating slightly above the level necessary to maintain my weight. I am

slowly gaining weight.

Does it make any difference to my health that I consume 30 or 50% of

calories from BEEF and the associated fat, as compared to 90% whole

low-fat plants?

How about 50% of my total calories from fish? Will this ratio promote

better health markers than 90%/10% plant:fish ratio?

Is beef protective or isn't it? Is fish protective and to what degree?

Where should the emphasis be is what i am asking?
