High doses of some normally healthy foods can also be dangerous to humans so caveat lector.JR

I agree a plant-based diet is prudent. But if these compounds they

extract and place into a pill form don't survive 'gastric juices' or

absorption how do these compounds in their natural state or 'package'

survive to provide the health benefit we attribute to the diet " rich

in fruit and vegetables " ?

As we often say here: we just don’t know the synergy of the different nutrients in whole foods. Which may be why supplements don’t work. Also there could be substances in the whole natural food that we haven’t yet discovered. Nutrition is a young science.
