Guest guest
Does any one know of any good multi-vitamin for older children and adults which does not contain copper and yet can be taken as only 1 or 2 capsuls. I am currently using Kirkmans but thats 6 or more per day and haven't tried Brainchild but figure it too is probably many pills for an older child and also concerned about the availability problem (have waited too long to start looking and will be out of SuperNuThera in about 2 weeks. Thanks Michele
Guest guest
The MULTI-VITAMIN topic is much more complex than that article. The article was likely written by someone who wants to draw the silly conclusions from the data they came up with. And then the article says vitamin X did not prevent disease Y. Look at people with diseases and what difficiencies are common---Yes MULTI-VITAMINs may not even work as they are minimal RDAs. Is the person taking a good brand, a liquid that may be more aborbed, or the generic brand? How much is really absorbed and needs to get absorbed to bring that person up--maybe they need to eat WHOLE FOODS that are high in that vitamin, and maybe supplements of some unknown amount will help. AndT there are many other factors such as the person's other diet, lifestyle, stomach problems, etc. But that article is silly if one uses it to then discredit all vitamins, herbs, & supplements. I've heard of people who got cured of 15 years of pain within 2 weeks of starting the correct amount of vitamin D.
Guest guest
As an FYIThe thought that they don't study vitamins/herbs/etc and/or do good studies on them, is not correct. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) is the Federal Government's lead agency for scientific research on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). We are 1 of the 27 institutes and centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. http://nccam.nih.gov/research/results/ Our Mission The mission of NCCAM is to: * Explore complementary and alternative healing practices in the context of rigorous science. * Train complementary and alternative medicine researchers. * Disseminate authoritative information to the public and professionals. What We Do NCCAM sponsors and conducts research using scientific methods and advanced technologies to study CAM. CAM is a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine. NCCAM has four primary areas of focus: 1. Advancing scientific research We have funded more than 1,200 research projects at scientific institutions across the United States and around the world. (As of today it is now over 3,000)http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=pubmed & cmd=Search & term=AT%20[gr]%20or%20NCCAM%20[gr] & doptcmdl=Abstract 2. Training CAM researchers We support training for new researchers as well as encourage experienced researchers to study CAM. 3. Sharing news and information We provide timely and accurate information about CAM research in many ways, such as through our Web site, our information clearinghouse, fact sheets, Distinguished Lecture Series, continuing medical education programs, and publication databases. 4. Supporting integration of proven CAM therapies Our research helps the public and health professionals understand which CAM therapies have been proven to be safe and effective. http://www.theannals.com/cgi/content/citation/41/7/1256 The Historyof Complementary and Alternative Medicine in the US. The ls of Pharmacotherapy. 2007 July/August, Volume 41 Research and Reimbursement More than 462000 citations have appeared in the CAM section of PubMed from 1966 to today and the NIH is spending $300 million per year on CAM research And, here is a link to the Cochrane Database and their reviewshttp://www2.cochrane.org/reviews/en/topics/22_reviews.htmlThe problem is, most all of the studies have shown these vitamins/herbs etc, to be of little if any value and many potentially harmful.n Health Jeff On Mar 18, 2010, at 10:07 AM, Francesca Skelton wrote: Right. Of course it is. However, there is many other science supporting the same if not similar conclusion, including those by the Cochrane Review team, which is considered the gold standard today. However, if you are going to dismiss the results of a study, because of poor quality of the study, then don't we need to prove our point with something of better quality than the study and not just an anecdotal story of people getting cured? Is that a higher more complex proof than the study? Jeff
