Guest guest
Are your friends making you fat? Posted by: " Francesca Skelton " Fri Sep 25, 2009 12:45 pm (PDT) How social networking influences us. --------------- hi Francesca thanks for pointing to that article. it also mentions the influence of family. in my one-rat anecdotal experience, the influence of family certainly had a role in my being overweight most of my life. all of my siblings were or are obsese and i sort of expected i would suffer from the same as if it was a disease. as i have mentioned before, when i moved from under the sphere of the family, moving to a different city in a different state, i re-evaluated my life. i became angry for not being in control of what i ate and started getting in control by calorie restriction. someone close to me is obese, a diabetic on dialysis. he suffered a heart attack and is planning to have a kidney transplant. he was musing that maybe he should suffer hunger for a few months to lose weight. the trouble is that he might not change his habits sufficiently to live much longer after the operation. what if he goes back to eating as before afterwards? that hapenned to another relative who did not change her habits after the same operation. some people change their habits when they see their health compromised. sadly some people don't. he attributes his overweight problem to being gregarious. the article you point to presents people that are gregarious and are not overweight. our cousins, who where our neighbors growing up, have not had the same obesity problems... cheers, Arturo
