Guest guest
Just had to share! Last night at ER I met the most wonderful, understanding and compassionate doctor. Finally! I don't know how competent a doctor he is, but wow! HE ASKED ME how he should approach Seth, what I thought such and such meant, and he said kids like Seth hold a special place in his heart. He is the only medical person I have met yet that didn't bombard Seth with talk. One word at a time and didn't get the least upset when Seth licked him or bit his stethoscope. I guess I am feeling better because I can see where some good is coming out of the bad. Just wanted to share some happy news. Gail

Guest guest
Wow, Gail, Sounds like a great doc. Write to the head of the ER and the CEO of the hospital. I'm serious. THose letters are VERY few and far between, as as we have the reputation of being mothers from hell, and * & ^#'s, a good letter now and again is well deserved. Also, include a copy, addressed to the doc, for his personal file when he goes to find another job. Future employers need to know what an outstanding job he did. Maybe he will be the one to really advance our causes and advocate for our kids! YOur push could be the stimulus he needs. He looks EXACTLY like Mr. and talks like him and moves like him. He's so patient with Maddie and always lets her dangle his tie and the stethoscope. Isn't it wonderful to experience truly kind people in the medical profession. I feel I've been blessed. The only time I HATED a doc (strong word, but he deserves it) was with myself when my primary wouldn't give me an MRI. Turned out it was extremely serious (ruptured disc) and I had to have a spinal fusion (last year). I had spinal chord compression and lost reflexes....but his guy wouldn't listen....kept telling me I probably had a pulled muscle!!!! When I finally got to see the neurologist, they did surgery almost immediately. I'm so glad you had such a good experience!!! Donna
Guest guest
Donna, I'm glad it was a good experience too. How is your back now? I always had good luck with docs for myself. Except one that gave me a shot and sent me home when I had an ectopic pregnancy. But poor Seth usually gets the unskilled, uncompassionate ones. Getting sick of hospitals! Spent all night last night at ER again. This time for me. Kidney stones are PAINFUL!!!! Please pray I pass it quick....I'm too busy to be laid up. I sure hope it passes REAL quick for you. My back is WAY better----better the second I woke up in recovery actually. It still can bug me and every so often I HAVE to lay down with a heat pad (specially if I do a lot of driving----all those neck turns, you know---the injury was actually in between C6 and C7)) and the doc recommends I wear my brace whenever I feel sore. Last night was a sore night.......but I suspect it had a lot to do with the stress of Maddie's IEP on Tuesday. Donna

I have a very similar story where more damage was done to my back due to my primary's refusal to order a CT or an MRI and instead sent me to PT when I had a severely herniated disc. I still have numbness on my left side due to nerve damage and take Celebrex every day. I've had two surgeries on the same disc. Sounds like you've really been through it with your back also. Here's to better back days ahead!!! Maureen

I am praying for you and for Seth. I hope you have passed your stone by the time you read this and that Seth's wound infection is gone. Here's to better back days ahead!!! Maureen >> GUESS what Maureen!!!! My primary sent me to PT too. The neuro thinks that's what made the disc blow up in my neck; apparently it was severely herniated too and they had me laying on a damn stretching machine!!!!! The day we saw the neuro he said we had no more than two days (had to wait that long so I could get 48 full hours of prednizone (sp?) in me) When we asked what if we didn't do the surgery, he told me I'd be paralyzed. So they had to go in through the front of my neck and literally pick the stuff off my spine (doc said the inside of a disc is like crab meat). I had numbness AND electric shocks going through my body from the pressure on my spine. They put a piece of cadaver bone in my neck and fused it with my spine. Then I wore neck braces for almost 4 months. Believe it or not, I'm glad the disc blew up because they say there's not a whole lot that surgery can do for just herniated ones. AMazing how much we have in common, huh? Donna

Guest guest
I HATE the doc who told me I was attention seeking because I had tingeling down my arms and legs, and recurrent thrush infections. Since I didn't have thrush the day I went in, this internist called my student health doc (who told the internist he never really say the thrush - thanks butt head - you looked at it, said thrush, gave me diflucan 3 TIMES and each time it went away) when I was in the next room. I let the tingeling go on for years, but finally went in a few months ago and I saw a neurologist. I have 4 herniated cervical discs. The thrush was not related, but usually tingeling like I had is metabolic. Anyway, all last year, I was a " victim " of manilpulation via practicing osteopathic medical students my first year here, which I should have avoided. I could have suffered big injury. My neuroligist told me " no one operates, no one manipulates " on my neck, and I maybe able to live a normal life. I am lucky I don't have more problems with it. I wonder if the folate cycle is related to easy disc injury???
