Hello all, Zach here with Dallas (age 5, almost 6)

For about a week, Dallas is doing the following: About suppertime, generally

somewhere between 6 to 7 PM, Dallas wants to go to bed. Which is fine I

guess, except he wants Mommy to go to bed, too (normally, the whole family

goes to bed in the 10 PM range). When it started, he was exhibiting what we

interpreted as pain. He doesn't want to eat, nor to bathe (normally his two

favorites things), he wants to go to bed right the heck NOW. I mean he's

bringing Mommy her nightgown, he's handing us his " bed/tired " picture, he's

clinging to her hand, dragging her, he is ready for bed. When he does this,

he sometimes sleeps until 6 AM, but sometimes might get up around 1 AM and be

up a while, and then go back to sleep, and be hard to get up for school.

He's normal all through the day. We've been to the doctor, even had blood

work done, nothing is apparently physically wrong, at other times he's

perfectly happy. We're thinking possibly molars coming in. Or maybe

something which could cause a fever to come up in the afternoon. I've read

of some of y'all's sleep difficulties. Opinions, experiences?

Zach:

If you haven't taken him to the doctor yet to look in his ears and all

those other things, do that first. Rule out the physical possibilities

first. He sounds like andy when he has fluid in his ear.

If he is healthy, then it's something to approach more behaviorally.....

How about sleep apnea - does he snore? Does it sound like he takes longer times

between breathes then you would? Try breathing with him when he is asleep. Do

you feel a little breathless before he takes another breathe?

zach, my daughter used to be an allnighter all the time......she would go

sometimes over 48 hours with no sleep......i am sure there were dozens of

factors involved, but now that she is older and usually sleeps better, when

she doesnt thats when i know its fluid overtaking her ears again....(joan

mentioned this????i think) anyways, by all means have his ears checked by a

competent doctor........ just my 2 cents.leah
