There is a theory that the reason so many kids are susceptible to allergens and illnesses nowadays is that they’re raised in environments which does not expose them to enough foreign matter and bacteria – never allowing their immune systems to build up immunity. Sterile environments may have their downsides.

Since I’ve remained healthy doing both of those below, I don’t know why I should start changing. OTOH it does pay to wash your hands often to avoid colds and flu.

(Of course there’s always the “yucky” factor.)

Subject: [ ] Aerosolization of bacteria

Yesterday, I watched a show where they took high-speed films of sneezes and toilet flushings. It is amazing how many droplets end up in the air.

I had read before that if you stored your toothbrush in a glass or a toothbrush holder in the bathroom, the brush would be contaminated with bacteria from the toilet. It turns out that it is true. For some time, I have stored my toothbrush inside the medicine cabinet.

Now, I think that I will close the toilet lid before I flush.
