Guest guest
Hi All, Has anyone come across evidence that CRON can have a positive effect on hypothyroidism? Every medical source I've read reports that hypothyroidism is the result of the gland having been attacked/destroyed by autoimmune activity, but a few of the fellow sufferers I've spoken to (mother included) have been able to come off the medication after a while (when the onset of the condition was postpartum, as mine was). I'm afraid to try to come off the medications (Levothyroxine and Thyrolar) in case I fall apart, but don't want to be tied to them for life. My most recent TSH level was .75, and I was diagnosed in 2001 for the second time. The first bout of hypothyroidism I had was in 1992 (also postpartum), and I was able to come off the synthroid after a few months and was fine. This time, symptoms were more severe and prolonged before I sought treatment again, and even though my levels are normal, I still have the chronic fatigue, occasional joint pain, brittle nails and hair loss (although I am rarely cold). I have read that the thyroid is less active in people on CRON, which makes sense since the metabolism is slower, but people report plenty of energy, so they are obviously not hypothyroid, as I am, which gives me confidence that CRON will not make it worse. Does anyone have any further info? Thanks -CRT
