Here’s a dilemma I’d like to pose to the group.  To those of you who use spreads or margarine, which of the many brands is healthiest?  They all seem to have some bad stuff in them (palm kernel oil for example).  Any opinions?  Jeff?  Tony? Anyone?

Olive oil (using a tea spoon for bread ) whatsoever.Substitutes sound even worse than real butter : the way I see it is either keep it to butter proper or quit.ChristopheFrom: Francesca Skelton <fskelton@...>support group < >Sent: Fri, 31

It would be a choice between the lesser of several evils and I choice I would not recommend. While it would depend on what you want to use it for, I would recommend condidering either mashed avocado or a bean spread like hummus which can be made from any bean or some roasted garlic that had been mashed or even a little nut butter. All of these would be far superior in regard to being higher in nutrient density & lower in calorie density. Happy New Years!Don't forget to start it off right with a bowl of Hoppin' JeffOn Dec 31, 2010, at 2:37 AM, Christophe Derambure <derambure.christophe@...> wrote:

+1... I don't eat anything that needs butter spread on it. But if I were to eat something that does as a rare treat I would be inclined to ask for real butter too. I have been served olive oil for that purpose in some italian restaurants and it was more than adequate. In case we miss the intention of that act, it is to slather some fat onto a piece of bread to give a working man, sufficient calories to make it through his workday. If you are new to eating healthy consider eating less of a whole food. Maybe only have toast with butter on weekends, or only on sundays, or only on new years day with a bowl of Hoppin ...
