Bruce Fife is the coconut oil expert and he writes that the melting temperature of coconut oil is 76 degrees, so maybe that coconut oil company is incorrect. However, the melting temperature doesn't matter. It simply means it will go liquid at that temperature, and nothing more. Yes, your coconut oil is quite fine. Guest guest
I grew up amongst coconut groves in India as we lived by the coast - used loads of coconut in cooking almost everyday starting with breakfast. Used it for massaging hair and body before bath etc. After a huge scare of high cholesterol, the Indian society shunned the coconut and now uses very sparingly and /or switched to peanut, sunflower or safflower oil. I understand that it can withstand high heat which is one of the primary reasons that I stayed away from it and used canola oil instead. If any one needs help with de-hulling tips, or cooking with coconut write to me off-line. There are so many ways you can use it in cooking. I will ask my extended family back home to switch right away. I will be hard to convince as almost everyone thinks coconut = high cholesterol shanthi

We get less coconut oil now than we used to. It was critical for about two years to our healing process. At the moment, we are going through quite a lot of organic butter, which is another thing that we find is a " healthy fat " which does something good for us. We don't have many standard American oils in our home, like canola, peanut oil, corn oil, crisco, etc. I currently have three things to cook with: Organic coconut oil, organic butter, and organic olive oil. I generally recommend you start at a low dose, like maybe 1/2 teaspoon (or even less), see how someone tolerates it, ramp up gradually. It can promote diarrhea and that can be a pretty negative experience if you start out with a high dose up front. I know a mom who started with a tablespoon a day and the child had such horrible, messy bm's she was ready to give up on coconut oil entirely because of having to clean up huge messes. Guest guest
Just to add from my experience. My Naturopathic DAN! Dr. suggested 1 tablespoon (yes working up to it and seeing how your child responds is a good idea - my daughter is 5 years old and 35 pds). She also suggested that we don't necessarily cook with it but drizzle it on the cooked food so that we receive the highest benefits the oil has to offer . The heat will change the effectiveness of the coconut oil. We tend to steam most of our food so this works well. We use it in the treatment of fungal infections (Candida). Make sure you are using the Virgin Cold-pressed unrefined NON-Hydrogenated. Guest guest
Hi , I usually get ORPHEE. like to purchase in a glass jar vs the plastic when I can. I dont know if its the best but its the best I can get at our local organics store. We use a lot of it. I agree with you. If I was going to cook at a high heat I would still use coconut oil and never olive oil. I have never deepfried with it. However, it is overall an excellent oil if not the best to use in almost all cases. Its is just better for you if used at a low temperature. Guest guest
In regards to cooking with coconut oil..... I never cook higher than medium temps. Because the gluten free breads are so dense I add the flare to my son's school lunch sandwiches and grill them in a cast iron pan. His favorites are grilled sunflower butter and simply fruit spread, raw cheddar goat cheese and ham, or just plan raw goat cheese for his version of the famous grilled cheese. The coconut oil really gives the samdwich a great flavor and toast the bread to perfection! My favorite brands and Nutivia, fruitrients or the brand Dr. Mercola sells on his web. mercola.com Coconut oil also makes the BEST popcorn! Heat oil (generous amounts to cover the bottom of pan) on medium heat, put one kernel of corn in the pan (I use cast iron), wait until this pops then add 1/4 cup of ORGANIC popcorn, cover, stand, and shake (the pan that is, lol) remove from heat and add popcorn salt. ENJOY! P.S You'll never go back to movie theater (deathdrogonated) popcorn again!. Hope you all get to try this! Your kids will be thankful. Guest guest
> > Does this need to be kept in the fridge after opening? +++Hi. What is your name? No, coconut oil is not kept in the fridge since it keeps 2 years or more at room temperature. It is also easier to use when it is liquid. In the fridge it goes solid, or when it is kept in lower than room temperature. Bee

Take all of the time your body needs in order to get up to the recommended doses of coconut oil. Some people can take 6 months to a year. Don't be concerned that it takes you longer, since the diet and supplements will still be healing in the meantime. Ensure your VCO is unrefined, undeodorized, unbleached and cold- or expeller-pressed. Bee

I now use a tbsp and do the same. It should be done at least once a day but sometimes I do more often, play around with it and see what works for you. I have a very strong constitution so it doesn't take me long to adapt to something and I've been practicing natural health methods since my early 30's, I'm now 55. I've tried different coconut oils and the best tasting I've found for eating right from the jar is found on Dr. Mercola's site, it is " Fresh Shores " . I use other brands for cooking like Spectrum (organic) Whatever brand you find check to make sure it is cold pressed and centrifuge extracted. I also use coconut milk to coat my mouth too, very good stuff and very effective on yeast over-growth. It is the . Caprylic acid kills fungus on contact. Caprylic acid is in coconut oil. Guest guest
Spice, Coconut oil is very good for the body, and effective for treating Candida. If I had an infection in my tonsils I would probably do several natural things to see what was the most effective and sometimes it is a combination that works. I would take Colloidal Silver orally.. gargle.... in between it's use I would also use the coconut oil and let it coat my mouth and throat. Then I would add a good probiotic that has at least a count of 10 billion. I would also systematically drink pure water, (4oz every 30 min for about 8 to 10 hr), and maybe make part of it lemon water. To this I would maybe take some epsom salts baths, time permitting, soaking for at least a minimum of 30 mins. Of course my diet would be whole organics, but lightly steamed instead of raw because my digestion would probably be stressed due to the infection and cooked is easier to digest. If my body couldn't digest the food it would just pass through without the benefit of the nutritients. More alternatives would be grapeseed extract, olive leaf, 3% food grade perioxide, increased C, D, & E. and REST. Just sharing some ideas, use what makes sense, leave the rest.
