Guest guest
Oh Boy Loriann!!!!! I'm so sorry you and your family are going through all this. I know you're not asking for advice and I certainly won't give you any. However, I just want to add that lots of kids with DS who aren't autistic still do the lining up of things. Heck, I remember my oldest (now 19 and NDA) lining things up when he was little. Also I have a very close friend whose daughter dangles 24/7, but is not autistic. And FWIW, I think you are wise to skip doing the powder thing. I didn't think of that, but it makes perfect sense that might stop eating the foods on the diet because they make him feel sick. Oh, I am so sorry!!! I am hoping and praying that the next couple months go quickly for you!!! {{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} And let us know what the bloodwork comes back showing, ok? Guest guest
Donna, Thanks for the encouragement. I won't be devastated if he turns out to be autistic. I've lived with that diagnosis for almost 2 years now. It's just that I want an accurate label. We all have labels. I'm wife-mother-teacher-sometimes taxi driver-etc. I am still hoping to have him mainstreamed with an aide and pull-outs for specials (like speech) and adapted academics. I hope the lining up is just him. He does actually have a purpose when he lines things up: he could be making a train, or all his cars heading towards the fan, which represents a tornado. There is imagination there. He also ties everything up, but says he's decorating. So it's not senseless (or at least he can let me know his logic in doing it). Does make me wonder if it's not all like that, but less verbal kids can't articulate that they just made a parade, or whatever. He's doing good today. We got the Phonics Factory yesterday, today being the first day to run through it. He actually followed and imitated the sounds of the letters and went through the tape 3 times!! He didn't feel confident enough to take the test, but I told him we can do that next week. On a praise note, I had broken (or thought I had) the scanner, which is my lifeline for homeschool (so I don't go through so many books, he needs repetition). I had dropped it off a cabinet when I was trying to fix my computer. Well, I took the top off and sort of re-set everything in place, and lo and behold, it works!!! I just scanned and printed 3 copies of his little 4-page booklet for lesson 1!! Loriann Wife to Dewight Mom to , 10 years, DS who knows what else?
