Guest guest
Loriann, I'm sure that we ALL have things (like skeletons in our respective closets) that maybe we haven't posted to the message board because we were (are) afraid of being " judged " as bad parenting! NONE, not one, of us is in your shoes and not one of us has the right (or even the desire, I don't think) to judge your actions with . You are absolutely right about the doctors....if he had Diabetes, they probably would have you put him back on a regular diet. I have had the same questions raised with regards to hypothyroidism with ...like maybe we should take him off the med and see if he is????? I know I value your input to this list and I hope that you won't leave just because someone has misunderstood your situation. Hang in there and don't let anybody make you feel like a bad parent! Guest guest
Actually I did originally, but since my computer crashed, I had forgotten it. Since it's been such a short time that he's been back on gluten, I should remember what he was like before. I'm inclined to say he's not autistic, otherwise he couldn't have made such marked progress to the point where I considered him recovered. As to the oppositionality, I am trying to have more patience with him. I know when I don't feel good, I'm cranky too. Please don't anyone think I'm beating my child because he's a bit cranky and doesn't want to listen to me. I also realize that I have been letting the sassing slip by because I fell into that trap of " but he can't help it, he's autistic " that I swore to myself I would never do. This part is going to be hard for me to type, and maybe for others to read. I have always felt that I got my support and sanity from this list. I complain more to you people than I do to my friends because I know there are more people here who have walked that mile in my shoes. It also is a release so that I don't HAVE to complain to my friends who don't understand. I have prayed and prayed and prayed and prayed and then prayed some more for a solution to this problem. I resent the insuation that I am harming my child for no apparent reason. If I suspected I had a child with diabetes and put him on a diabetic diet for almost a year to where all the symptoms had disappeared, and then went to a doctor to diagnose it, the first thing he would do is have me put him back on a regular diet to see if it was all in my head. This has been pure hell on me and I'm normally a very strong person. I can't sleep, I feel like God has abandoned me, and that I'm poisoning my child. I never thought I would have to censor my thoughts with this list, and if I can't get understanding in the last place I have to turn, I might as well leave, too. You are a strong person. Everyone on this list is, or we wouldn't be on it trying to help our children. We all try our best to do what is right for our children. I know even with my girls, I can just explain to one why they have to do something, and with the other, it takes hand over hand .....VERY OFTEN!!!!! LOL What works for one doesn't work for all. Hang in there, God will reward you, you know! Gail
