Guest guest
Hey all, Last Thursday evening, I had a bit of a close call / freak accident. While transferring from my shower gurney to the toilet using my Hoyer lift, one of the straps for the part of the sling that goes under my legs slipped off the hook and I tumbled out! I took a slight bump to the head on the tile floor, but was mostly saved by the fact that my left leg got tangled up in the sling on the way down. I ended up hanging upside down by my leg like some sort of inept amateur bungee jumper! A trip to the ER, several x-rays, and a CAT scan later, the official diagnosis was that my head was fine and nothing was broken in my leg, but I sustained significant ligament damage to my knee. Right now, I'm back at home, but I'm largely stuck laying on my back with my left leg relatively immobilized since any twisting of the knee joint is absolutely excruciating. So, I'm reaching out to see how those of y'all that have sustained injuries have dealt with pain. I've always avoided pain medication, and so far I haven't taken anything other than Tylenol (which was mostly just for the swelling). Are there any pain meds that have potential risks with SMA? Also, have any of you taken a liquid pain medication? I can't safely swallow pills whole, and I'm leery of the idea of crushing up a pain pill since it seems like that could significantly alter the absorption rate. Thanks! -
