" Because you, or someone you know has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Types 1, 2 or 3. Currently, there is no research on heart weakness (or cardiomyopathy) in patients with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Yet many patients experience heart problems. With your input, you will be helping someone with the disease. If heart weakness is found, future treatment plans may include heart protective medications to slow the progression of cardiac muscle weakness, and thus prolong life. But the first step is to answer the question: " How many patients with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Types 1, 2 or 3 have cardiomyopathy?
