Guest guest
I have not cruised but when you get back it would be great to hear of your trip. I certainly will do that one day, providing the cosmos aligns. Also, there is a wheelchair travel site called " wheelchairtravelling.com " . Olson operates the site. We've written an article for her and she can always use additional articles that help other wheeling travelers. She can provide lots of useful information. > > Has anyone been on a cruise? Guest guest
I went on a 7 night cruise that left from New Orleans, and then made stops in Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica. Overall-- it was " pretty " , tons of food on board, and drinks. I did not enjoy the uneven bumps throughout the ship (each doorway threshold had one) including in/out of our room and bathroom. I have a power chair but cannot imagine using a manual chair on a cruise. I was disappointed, too, that the excursions were not wheelchair friendly. There were no van accessible taxi cabs when the boat docked so we either had to stick around that area for the day or put me in the cab and lift my power chair into the taxi van. I hope your experience is much better than mine--it has been a long time (13 years ago). ~a From: Suzanne <erinnesmom@...> Subject: Cruising , smasupportgooglegroups Date: Saturday, April 28, 2012, 8:39 AM Â Has anyone been on a cruise? Guest guest
We took that route about 18 mts ago and the ship was great but we couldn't get off the boat........ ever. They never parked (docked?) us near the dock/pier, so we had to use a small boat to take us to shore...... which of course never works with a power chair! I hope you can!!! Guest guest
I went on a cruise out of ville last year and it was perfect! The bathroom was as accessible as any hotel I've stayed in. The cabin itself wasn't very big (I had about enough room to turn around), but was manageable. The ship was very easy to get around, and I can't really remember too many accessibility issues throughout the ship. When we docked in Freeport and the keys, the ramps to get on and off the boat were kinda steep (I'm a wimp when it comes to ramps), but I was with enough of my family to make sure I didn't fall to my death (I really hate ramps). I was too cheap for excursions, but I do remember a few at least saying they were accessible (but that doesn't always mean anything). All in all, it was a pretty good trip!
