is it related to SMA? And by tachycardia I don't mean our " normal " elevated

heart rate. I went to a cardiologist a year and a half ago and I checked out

fine. Any ideas? I'm 22 years old and a weak type II. I notice that several

times (not all) when the episodes happen, it is shortly after I have eaten.

My heart races after eating certain types of food... it seems salty foods kick

my heart into over-drive. For example, if I eat pizza, I know my heart will

race, if I have a boring green salad, it will not race. Dunno why, but this

seems to have become more pronounced as I've gotten older (I'm 42 now). I told

my doctor about this and he didn't seem concerned.

I would love to know the cause if anyone knows.

I've been diagnosed with Tachycardia, BUT the doctors have no clue why, I'm

healthy and my heart and lungs are fine.  Mine isn't caused by anything, no

matter when it's taken in the last 5 or 6 years its been fast.  I also don't

feel it, so my doctors said not to worry unless it starts to bother me.

Sodium can raise your blood pressure which can then effect your heart rate.

There IS a connection between SMA and heart issues. Many of the parents of

the type 1 & 2 kids are keeping a close eye on this with their doctors.

There is an excellent doctor that we saw at Ohio State (I'm in Mich) and he

and his peers are extensively testing the kids that come in to the clinic.

ne's (type 2, 15 yrs) neurologist has discussed this with me many

times. He states that we know there is a cardiac problem -- but we just

don't know the link yet. ne has episodes of tachycardia as well as an

irregular heartbeat. For now, we are just watching and routinely testing

her.

Several younger SMA children have died from heart issues.
