I want the laminating machine that Joan talked about (S & H much cheaper at the stickermaker site), picture this and magnetized paint(very pricey at $38.00 a quart). I also found magnetic tape. Well, for $285.19 I can get it up and running. If I can't get funding, I will just get the laminating machine and paint to get started. Like you, anything just stuck or hanging on a wall around here wouldn't last a week. LOL Gail

I haven't given up on Seth talking, but it's not my number one priority either. I just want him to be able to communicate in some way. Pecs, sign, writing...I don't really care which way works for him, just that we find which one will. Big congrats to you, Brook and his teacher! Zach >> Hi Zach, My daughter is 7 and IS non-verbal. Also doesn't comprehend ANY verbal language. Over the years, the professionals always made it sound like a hopeless feat for her. But we had this fabulous sensory integration therapist who one day during a session said to me... " I believe that Maddie will talk " . I remember looking at her and tears just streamed down my face. I don't know if Maddie will talk, but I hope it'll happen. I hope it'll happen for you too. Donna

Guest guest
Hi Zach, Brook turned 11 in February. When he was little he said maybe two words, baba for bottle and later baba meant his older brother Miles. We really didn't think he would start talking because we had also been told that he probably wouldn't talk and he was making no progress. He is very low functioning. But last year he started saying " Hi " and also said " baby " frequently when his little sister was born 3 1/2 yrs ago. He can be very difficult to work with but has had some creative teachers who have given him rewards that were meaningful to him, like music and computer time. Earlier this year at his new school that we actually started last summer he started talking. I really though his teacher had a lot of wishful thinking going on, but now he talks more and more at school. Small phrases that they make him say before he gets what he wants, like " I want " followed by many different options. Also he has to say bus and go home at the end of the day. He apparently now can fill in certain missing words from songs like " She's coming around the and he says 'mountain. " According to them his speech is really improving at he's becoming a lot better and less resistant to their demands. At home it is much harder for me to get him to talk although I do get him say " I want " and " bath " and some other words too. We have truly been amazed so don't ever give up hope on your child learning how to communicate. Brook had a very hard time with the pecs and we worked on that for years. He is also supposed to get an augmentative communication device but I'm not sure if they will give it to him because he had a hard time recognizing the little symbols according to his SLP although his teacher said it was approved for him. So we'll see. If you have any more questions on techniques his teacher has used let me know?
