Hi all:

Andy is " graduating " from grade school this year and moving on to middle

school. He's 12 years old, and has been in an inclusive environment the

last three years with mixed successes and failures. The trouble spots, I

believe have a lot to do with the lack of understanding of visual strategies.

The placement we have engineered, is a part-time placement in general

education sixth grade and part time placement in a classroom called, " the

intensive visual strategies classroom " (for kids iwth autism). The program

itself won't be fully up and running until September, but they've been

transitioning and changing things since around December. I've been

attending parent meetings to see what I think, and I do think this is a

good place for Andy to be able to get supports from.

I'm making him a transition book (we visit on Monday), and thought I'd

share some of the early pictures I have of the room with you all. Keep in

mind, this is the visual strategies room. Andy will begin his day with this

group, organize his schedule, do some sensory stuff, and then head off to

his sixth grade block class.

(he gets to take block, mirimba band, and something else...)

The files of the photos are available at:

/files/Visual%20strategies/Visual%20S

trategies%20Classroom/

When I get the transition book done to my liking (probably after Monday of

course), I will upload a pdf of that.

Joan
