Fran or anyone with help,

My daughter kylie has been on cimetidine for about 5 months now. I

have noticed a difference, she has only fevered two times in the five

months, when her regular cycle used to be every 14 days. Now, should

i stop the cimetidine at six months or go for the year? we had her

liver enzymes check 1 month ago and everything was fine. How do I

know if it the cimetidine working, or if it is just one of

the " breaks " that alot of people have been experiencing.

thank you

father to kylie

Discuss it with your doctor... first off...

BUT if you have seen such a POSITIVE change with the fevers I personally would

ask to keep her on the medication for a year checking her enzymes every 3-4

months...

We have seen a few children complete resolve fevers in the years time when a

decrease is seen as you are seeing.

As for this being a break etc.. you won't know... and as for this being a " cure "

all... you will never know that either. It seems there are MANY children who

have stopped fevering on their own, with Cimetidine, or with removing tonsiles

and the fevers end up coming back years later....

Why?? No one knows! But if this is helping alleviate and stop fevers and it is

not harming her... I would definitely discuss keeping her on it longer with your

doctor.

I hope this helps.

My son's rheumatologist threw me for a loop at our last check-up.

She started him on cimetidine after his last fever in July. I figured 6 mos

and we'd be free. We went in Sept for a check-up and blood work. I asked her

about stopping the cimetidine and this is what I was told

Nicky will stay on the cimetidine indefinitely. She said there is no real

cut-off point. As long as his current dose stops the fevers he will stay on that

dose. Over time he may get a fever--most likely a common virus. If the

fevers start to come in cycles again she will re-evaluate his dose as he most

likely will need adjustments to the dose as he grows. She then said that she

stops cimetidine when she finds that the child has been on the same dose for a

long time without fevering and relative to their size the dose is almost

insignificant.
