Guest guest
Our daughter has been at Monarch School since May. We are really impressed with their school program. Please feel free to email me if you'd like more information. Carol In a message dated 1/14/2010 2:37:47 P.M. Guest guest
we sent our child last year to monarch, the year before to public school and this year to different public school, as we have moved. Monarch is a wonderful school and your child and family will feel welcomed and very confident with their staff, not to mention you will not need to worry at all about your child. public school is a whole different playing ground. I would be happy to speak with you more extensively if you desire. I think good things to do our to observe in action, student/aid/child ratio, curriculum/resources/program, therapy time/opportunity, technology, resources, social opportunities with typical peers also, length of program (daily, months/year), attitude of staff/personality toward the children. Tuition is a tough one! They know autism well, way more so than public schools and they know how and what to do. that speaks volumes. feel free to email me privately as well. Hope this helps. lisa landjplatko@... In a message dated 1/14/2010 11:13:35 A.M. Our school district is looking to place our 10 year old son in an "alternate Placement" because they can't handle him. We were initially against this but have come to realize it may be the best thing for him. He is very unhappy going to school and there are many issues with the current classroom. However, here is where I need advice. We are going to look at Pep, Monarch and the CC school next week. Is there any particular questions that anyone would recommend us to ask? Anything that we should look for and be aware of? Thanks for you help!Tara

Guest guest
I liked lisa's suggestions and agree that monarch is a great option! The Cleveland clinic center for autism has gone through some major changes lately, so defitely needs be toured and observed. Two wonderful options though somewhat differnt... As each child is different you will know which would be a better option. I have toured Pep but wasn't a great fit for my son ---that was about 3 or 4 years ago though. Def. Worth putting your time into!! Good luck and keep us posted! Guest guest
My 13 year old Asperger son is at PEP Willow Creek (lorain county) presently. He has been there for 2 years. Although it was a nice change from public school at first, I have now discovered that they have not dealt with his Aspergers any better than public school. They deal with ADHD and say it is all covered under that. (It's not). Have been to Spectrum, Summit, CC and Monarch. Monarch is the best by far. Am presently "fighting" with my system to get him to Monarch (already have doctor recommendation, reoccurrence of problems, rejection of admission to Lawrence due to behavior modification needs and social skill training needs). I do know that the PEP school in Parma (don't know the name), is presented as working with Autism students. Maybe that would work with your district. HOWEVER, I would try for CC or Monarch first. Guest guest
I'm confused--why would a kid with Asperger's be at Monarch? Not trying to be confrontational or anything, just truly curious. Guest guest
Monarch has classrooms for only Asperger/High Functioning children. I went for the tour. It was wonderful. Carol B.
Guest guest
OK, I just checked with my tutor (who works at Monarch) and she says this is a group of teens. Nothing there like that for the younger kids. From: cabstg@... <cabstg@...>Subject: [ ] Re: Alternate Placement Questions Date: Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 5:59 PM Monarch has classrooms for only Asperger/High Functioning children.
