Blue Ribbon Winter 2010

The mission of the Solon Blue Ribbon Program is to provide high quality

recreation and leisure activities for persons with disabilities, enabling each

to enhance his or her personal potential by sharing in the emotional, social and

physical benefits fostered by such community based activities. In person

registration at the Solon Community Center, 35000 Portz Pkwy.,Solon, Ohio from

8a.m. to 7p.m. Find mail in registration at www.solonrec.org, click the Blue

Ribbon tab, print the registration form and follow the instructions provided.

Please allow enough time prior to event for mail in registration. Contact

YOUTH

St. Valentines Day Bowling Party

A Valentine’s Day Celebration at Solon Freeway Lanes. Enjoy a game of Bowling,

2 slices of Pizza, a Soda and

Sweets.                               

Ages:   Children w/disabilities and their siblings ages 5-11 years. Time is

limited so parents staying are asked to not bowl.

Date:   February 14,

Time:   4:00pm – 5:30pm

Location:  Freeway Lanes, 33185 Bainbridge Rd. Solon Ohio

Fee:   $10.00 per person bowling      

Registration: Now through January 28th

ADULT

What’s Baking?

Come and enjoy as we make and decorate cookies for the Friday holiday party. 

Pizza and drinks will be served for

dinner.

Holiday Party

Dance to a DJ and participate in the $1.00 gift exchange. Please buy a non-

gender specific gift for no more than a dollar and wrap it and we will have a

grab bag gift exchange. Chili and holiday foods will be served.

Ages:   Teen and adults w/ disabilities ages 12 and over.

Day:    Friday Fun Night

Dates:  December 18th.

Time:    7:00pm - 9:30pm

Location:  Banquet room  

Fee:        $10.00

Registration: Now through December 16

What’s Cooking?!                             

Practice kitchen skills, preparing, cooking and cleaning up after a meal. Make

Italian wedding soup, pizza and calzones.

Ages:   Teens to adults with disabilities ages 12 and over.

Day:    Tuesday    

Date:   January 12,

Time:   5:00pm – 6:30pm

Location:  Solon Community Center Kitchen and Meeting Rooms

Fee: $15.00

Registration: Now through January 10th

Rock and Roll over Dead- Murder Mystery Night

The local librarian was preparing for a battle of the bands and somebody

murdered her. Why and Who did it?!  Come dressed like a rock star from the

50’s, 60’s or 80’s and follow the clues to solve this mystery. Dinner will

be served.

Ages:   Teens to adults w/disabilities ages 12 and

over.

Date:   January 22nd

Time:   7:00pm – 9:00pm

Location:  The Solon Public Library  34125 Portz Parkway, Solon Ohio

Fee:  $7.00

Registration: Now through January 20th

Swim Party                              

Enjoy our 4th annual swim party with our friends from the Lake Metro Parks.

Enjoy the pool and a delicious meal.

Ages:   Teens to adults with disabilities ages 12 and over.

Day:    Saturday   

Date:   February 6th

Time:   6:00pm – 7:30pm swim time   7:30p.m. to 8:00p.m. food time

Location:  Solon Community Center indoor pool and common area

Fee: $10.00

Registration: Now through February 3rd

 

Fitness to Wellness to Fun

Participate in this energetic, fun and stimulating hour designed to get you up

and moving.  This series will include a unique combination of obstacle courses,

agility drills, strength and endurance training, motor skill reaction drills,

and developmental exercises.  Participants will enjoy a great workout in a

great atmosphere.  Please wear appropriate exercise clothing and supportive

athletic shoes.

Ages:   Teens to adults with disabilities ages 13 and over.

Day:    Mondays

Date:    Session I, January 11 – February 15

            Session II, February 22 – March 29

Time:   6:30p.m - 7:30pm

Location:  Team Energetics, 750 Alpha Drive, Highland Hts., ( By Rt. 271 and

Mills Rd.)

Fee: $48.00 per session

Registration: Now through January 7th 

Limit: Min. 15    Max. 45

 

Nerf Tag

Get Active!  This Game Night at Team Energetics will be fun-filled and will

include various combinations of Nerf Tag, Inflatable bouncers, Ball Games, and

Motor Skill Developmental Games such as obstacle courses, cones and ladders and

target practice.

Ages:   Teens to adults with disabilities ages 13and over.

Day:     Friday

Date:   February 12th

Time:   7:00p.m – 9:00pm

Location:  Team Energetics, 750 Alpha Drive, Highland Hts.( By Rt. 271 and

Mills Rd.)

Fee: $8.00

Registration: Now through February 5th

 

           

FUN FEST          

It is the 7th year for this fabulously huge party for individuals with special

needs, their families and caregivers. Join us as the Solon Community Center

transforms into the St. ’s Day themed FUN FEST-IVAL. Participate in

games, air bouncers, bingo, D.J. dancing, information center, food, drink and

the other special attractions of the evening.  Remember to wear green.

Ages:   Individuals with disabilities, their families and caregivers.

Day:    Saturday

Date:   March 6,   

Time:   6:30pm-9:00p.m.

Location:  Solon Community Center

Fee:        $3.00 per person advance   $5.00 per person at the door.

Registration: Now through March 6th

 

New Approach to Cinema Cruiser

We are going to try a more economical approach to Cinema Cruisers. Please come

to the Community Center for Pasta,  and salad at 5:30.  Then we will take a

ride to Solon Cinemas for $5.00 movie night, $1.00 small soda and candy or ½

price med. popcorn and drink specials.  The participants will practice skills

and be responsible for purchasing their own tickets and snacks.   Please

provide them with a minimum of $5.00 and any additional money if snacks are

permitted.  The registration for this trip will cover the dinner, drinks and

staff costs only.

Ages:   Persons with disabilities ages 16 and older

Day:    Monday

Date:   March 22  

Time:   5:30m- 9p.m.( return time verified that evening)

Location:  Solon Community Center and Solon Cinema’s

Fee: $7:00 per evening

Registration: Now through March 18
