Guest guest
> Does anyone use the verbal behavior program in their classroom or at home, and if so how has it been working. Our speech teacher just went to a conference about this program, and said it was wonderful. She said this program was great for the autism population. Hi, Yes, it is a great program. My son is at the early stages of the combo of ABA with VB that have shown great progress. Kids with little to no language are good candidates!! AVB is really a big job but it works. Verbal Behavior was a theoretical analysis, and subsequently, a behavioral analysis, of language. From the theoretical analysis came experiments designed to demonstrate that language is functionally related to the environment in different ways. From those experiments, various " training packages " were developed. These training packages have also been confused as a " type " of behavior analysis. Been doing some homework. So that I could have the school district creaet this program at school or just so that they could get educated in this arena. Here is a site that you could review and download which is ONE of the many resources. http://www.mariposaschool.org/programs/ If you or the speech therapist would like to persue this for school or home these groups have been great with information so that your child could benefit this wonderful program and with the proper information to look into it. It can be very overwhelming but worth IT! You do have to sign in, but once you're in go directly to the files and links to research on. If too much incoming mail imposes your email box then you could always unsubscribe. To ease your mind my son according to the clinic he attends has mentioned that he is the most difficult child they've dealt with and today I could express " he can be taught. " Plus he is a late bloomer who has missed out alot when he was younger. All with due time as every individual are different. It never hurts to try alternative therapy as we are always searching for answers. http://verbalbehaviornetwork.com/ I say this as we had the most beautiful experience at one of my close friends house celebrating her two sons birthday and it was great that we were not overcrowding him by being a shadow on his every move. As a matter of fact one adult guest sat by him while he was eating and it was time to eat cake and he was still working on his food. That she wanted to know if could have a piece. I told her " yes " and may be placed by his plate. Only he takes his time rotating the plate in a precise order eating than he'll come around eating the cake. Then she said " yes, all autistic kids do that " , she is a RN. Then I said " your correct, glad you notice that as many never saw that, just because he is Downs. " Then her eyes widen and gave a double look and said " Down's! I only see the autistic in him. " Ok, not that this throws off the features only that he was very well behaved with the autistic traits. never have never been this well mannered and verbal around others still a little hard to understand but his words are coming around. We always had to get up and go with a struggle. Recently, this has cut down, I know these are results from his ABA/VB therapy. I'll stop here so that many could share there side of experiences as they do have this program at school and at home. Hope this helps, good luck.
