Guest guest
Debbie, if your district reduced services without supportive data (or adequate notice?), could you start to take the reins back by arguing violation of due process? (Or have you started this already?) Carol In a message dated 10/8/2009 12:33:32 P.M. Central Daylight Time, MrsDebMay@... writes: We have run into some issues that are unique. I would love to hear other input. Our school district changed the IEP and dramatically reduced services without supportive data. We refused to agree and sign the new IEP (note they implemented it anyway and said they don't need our permission) which now makes us unable to get our scholarship money (because we don't have a signed IEP. So now....the district has us by the ___________(you fill in the blank). Debbie We are considering Autism Scholarship / Need input Medina County ProvidersHi everyone,We are seriously considering the Autism Scholarship beginning January 2010 for our son, .He has PT, OT, Speech, Adaptive Gym and Adaptive Music as well as a couple specific programs used for him (i.e. Touch Math, keyboarding, etc.) already written into his IEP. We are wondering about providers in our Medina area, and if anyone can recommend one over the other. We are heading out of town Friday morning, but I can still review emails this weekend. Please email me privately and also give me your phone number if you are willing to talk as well.Thank you everyone so much.Vickie Fetskovickie_fetskoverizon (DOT) net
Guest guest
Hi, We did end up hiring an attorney that specializes in issues such as this. We had a verbal agreement but the new IEP didn't match what they said they would change. It is almost like when the pupil services person is around an attorney or a person "in the know" she agrees to changes...then when it comes time to put it in writing she takes it all back. I am trying hard to not think they are doing this on purpose so we miss the scholarship deadline. I am trying hard to belive our district doesn't employee incompetent people. We llve in Brecksville. I love our city. I support our teachers.....it is just our special ed services need better administrative direction. Guest guest
Anyone who goes into fields that help our kids are good people, I share your sentiments about a fondness for our teachers, district, and the area where we are from, too. But a deal is a deal, your pupil services liaison can't just take it back. Even a verbal agreement is a binding one. You can keep the acrimony out of your own hands by asking your attorney to handle it. Have your agreement put in writing - get it on the IEP so that the conditions have to implemented. Your attorney shouldn't sign off until that's done. We had to go through this a while ago with our district, and it was hard. We kept reiterating that we personally thought everyone was so nice, but because it was our daughter's future, we just couldn't waver on some issues. Your faith doesn't have to be shaken, there's probably a greater chance that they aren't trying to delay so that you miss the deadline. It's probably like you think, the administration is a little scatter gunned. But all the more reason that you have to ensure the follow through, and maybe your attorney could better accomplish that.
