Guest guest
Dear , My name is , but another member of the group. My question would be FIRST who diagnosed your 8 year old son with autism? Private or school. Remember, schools can evaluate, but DIAGNOSING any disability is for the private, medical setting. Schools like to say they diagnose, but they are not qualified too. Having said this your concern due to your son's lack of progress is probably right on target. If you suspect ODD, or OCD those are conditions that should never be evaluated in a school setting. That is for a psychologist or behavioral pediatrician or neuropyschologist in the PRIVATE medical setting. Thirdly, I would say a full reading/dyslexia evaluation, a full academic achievement evaluation a full speech and language evauation to measure receptive, expressive, social language/ pragmatic skills to include the areas of syntax a full ot evaluation to include evaluation of the sipt and praxis area. Let the school evaluate first, and then you can always disagree with their evaluations and request IEE's in all areas for private testing, if your child does not have insurance or medicaid. But as a mom, any evaluations you can get done in the private sector you should do. What services, programming and therapies is he receiving in the educational setting in actuality?
