Guest guest
Hello,Has anyone had any experience with using Seroquel for their child?? Our son is almost 8 and has been having increased behavior issues since the start of the school year this year plus he is a poor sleeper in general. We have been unsuccessful with other meds so yesterday the doctor prescribed Seroquel. He has been on Clonodine, Metadate, Risperdal and Abilify. Risperdal worked the best but we gained too much weight on. Our experience with Abilify was a little on the scary side of things. We haven't started him on it yet and wanted to hear about other's experiences, good, bad or indifferent before we did. I spent some time searching the internet last night but got so many different insights from every different website.Thank you for taking the time to read and any feedback would be appreciated.Take care, and Jen
Guest guest
and Jen, My daughter was on seroquel for several years - she is not on the autism spectrum, but is diagnosed with RAD and a mood disorder. She took it to help stabalize her mood swings and it did help. She had no weight gain on it, and it helped to even out her mood. I know it is a completely different diagnosis (I have a son with Asperger's) - but I thought I'd throw in the little bit of experience we've had with that med. Good luck, Kay From: Jen <jennyellaian@...>Subject: [ ] Seroquel Date: Wednesday, April 28, 2010, 12:38 PM Hello,Has anyone had any experience with using Seroquel for their child?? Guest guest
Intuniv is an extended release form of guanfacine (brand name tenex). If Intuniv is too expensive you can get the generic guanfacine and break it out. I give my son 1/2 tablet in the AM and a whole one around 5:30 PM as it reaches it's peak about 4 to 5 hours later which gets his head on the pillow at night. In this case the generic has worked fine. This is a drug which many take (Tenex) to lower blood pressure - so just be aware of that.I would be afraid to try seroquel on my son. So have you already tried Melatonin at bedtime? If he already wasn't on the guanfacine to help with his stimming and eye poking - I would just use Melatonin for my son. It's very inexpensive. He has ADHD as well as autism - he gets hyper in the evening and simply cannot fall asleep. If he doesn't get enough sleep we get the behavior issues, so I can completely relate! We just started using Intuniv, a new 24 hr ADHD med. It's expensive, but it's been proven to have a calming effect on kids with either ADHD or autism. It does - he's on the lowest dose and it did wonders for him. You can ask your doc to prescribe twice the dose and cut the pills in half. Some of these meds are just so expensive! Hope this helps. :-) Diane The New Busy think 9 to 5 is a cute idea.
