Overview

Imagination Theater is a new drama program, developed by Monarch Center for

Autism, that is designed to inspire imagination, encourage flexible thinking, help teenagers find their own voices, and teach social skills in a positive and fun way.

Participants will engage with their peers in a variety of activities including drama, games, short vignettes, story telling, improvisation, and physical exercises.

Participants

Imagination Theater is designed for teenagers, ages 13-18, with Autism Spectrum Disorders, who are interested in using their communication and social skills to engage with other teens on the autism spectrum.

Schedule

Classes will be held on Sundays from 3:00—4:00 p.m., beginning

Sunday, January 24, 2010 through Sunday, February 28, 2010 (excluding Sunday,

February 14, 2010).

Location

Imagination Theater will be conducted at Monarch School, which is located on

the Bellefaire JCB campus (22001 Fairmount Boulevard, Shaker Heights, Ohio

44118).

Objectives

• Build on existing strengths and develop new ones

• Develop and hone social skills, eye contact, communication, socialization and imagination

• Learn to identify and display feelings and emotions using visual supports

• Have fun with peers

Registration

To register for Imagination Theater, please complete and return the attached registration form with payment of $115 (for 5 sessions) by Tuesday, January 19, 2010 to Karin Hess-Hopkins at Monarch School. Upon receipt of the form, we’ll contact you to schedule a pre-enrollment interview with your child, which is required to determine whether s/he will

benefit from the program.

All participants must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Minimum enrollment is required to conduct the class. For more information, please contact Karin at hessk@... or 216.320.8658.

Theater Instructor

Brad Wyner has been working at Bellefaire JCB for four years in the Care and Adoption division, running arts programming for the Teens 2 Homes grant.

Brad continues to work in professional and educational theater, at venues including the Cleveland Play House, Dobama Theatre, Cleveland School of the Arts, and JCC Playmakers Youth Theater. A winner of the Spielberg Fellowship in drama, Brad loves using the arts as a tool to unleash the creative voice inside every young person.
