Guest guest
Please visit www.wrightslaw.com - it's the special ed law and advocacy website. There is so much information to access with reference to our kids, the law, and their rights. Your son's school is being punitive for an action merely related to his disability. Maybe they just need to understand more, and calling a staffing to explain his situation might help. But 's Law is always a good resource if you have questions about the law, federal regulations, caselaw, etc. as it pertains to special ed. In a message dated 12/18/2009 8:30:18 A.M. He is an Eighth grader in a Special Needs Class. Terrance is Autistic with an eating disorder. Terrance is an honor student and well behaved. On Wednesday, Terrance was still hungry after lunch and without permission took an extra sandwich in the cafeteria. A lunch aide reported the incident and Terrance was taken into custody like a criminal. He was summoned to the principal's office and required to write a letter of apology to the school lunch aides, however after observing Terrance's remorse for taking the sandwich, apologizing continuously about the incident and having a nightmare about meeting with the principal, was enough apology for him. The school begs to differ and are requiring my son to write a letter of apology or my son will be suspended for a day. Please someone give me your input on this -- I feel an injustice has been done based upon my son's condition and it is not taken into consideration at all. I am revising my son's IEP based on this current incident. What are my rights? if any? Please advise -- anyone. Sincerely, Mrs. Pannell

Guest guest
s law is amazing and if you have a chance to go to their training's ... go for it. I have been to 2 of their multi day training's (I think they both were about 3 hr drives) and would go again in a heartbeat if there is a training w/i a 4/5 hr drive. The next one in our area is April 8, 2010: Columbus, OH - Special Education Law and Advocacy Training sponsored by the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio. Speaker: Pete . I would be wiling to carpool if anyone is interested. Re: [ ] School Issue - Special Needs Child Will Be Suspended For Takin...
