Guest guest
Looking for anything and everything. Went to the open house and yes, I realize they don't take kids with autism as primary dx. I want to hear the good, bad, and ugly (though you might want to email offline). Thanks.AmyPS For the rest of those in the state, this is a school on the west side of Cleveland.
Guest guest
I did attend the open house at Lawrence Middle School. After a huge (3 hour) meltdown the day before (because I prepared my son for the open house and he hates change), went with us and after is was all done (and we were safely driving home in the van), he said "Ok, I am open minded about this. I love this school". (I about fainted - good thing my husband was driving). It was wonderful. The abilities for learning, the methods of teaching, the 12 -14 in a class, the use of technologies, the enthusiam of the student ambassadors that gave us all the tour, the teams, clubs, activities that they ALL can participate in, the art room, the theater, the gynasium, the weight room (that the kids actually get trained in), etc. etc. He took the brochure to school today to show EVERYONE. GO KYLE. We are filling out the application tonight, (after tracking down his most current MFE and IEPlast night). If he is accepted he will start in January. This is definately the correct move for him. They are a K-12 school now. Very affordable. On the Autism Scholarship program, but more for High functioning. The child must also have ADD or ADHD and/or dylexia. That is the real reason for the program. The social/behavioral issues are easier for the kids to get when the classes are smaller, and they are accepted, and there is no bullying. There was no addressing of Autism or Aspergers in the Open House, however, we know our children best, and this is it for him. The doctor wanted him all the way back to the Lerner School of Autism for his leaning skills, but, I think this is the happy in between (between Lerner and mainstream) for my child. Will keep you posted. Carol
