Guest guest
Hi - My son has been on Vyvanse for about a year and a half. It has been absolutely wonderful!!!! Even his teachers call it the "miracle drug"!!! It has dramactically reduced his tantrums and has given his given him the ability to focus in school. I would highly reccommend it! sandi From: Loucas <sloucas@...>Subject: [ ] Anyone have any feedback on Vyvanse" " < >Date: Tuesday, October 6, 2009, 1:45 PM Hello again, Last month I emailed asking for input on Focalin for our son with ADHD/AS and we tried it. The teachers saw no difference in his ability to focus (however we all saw negative effects in behavior such as irritabilty and impulsive conduct) We tried this for 2 weeks and had to have a parent-teacher meeting scheduled. Now our Neurlologist wants us to try Vyvanse. (Adderall XR helped in the classroom, but again negative side effects none of us could live with.) Does anyone have any feedback on Vyvanse? I really appreciate the input of parents who take the ASD journey everyday like our family. THank you for your reply. L

Guest guest
Yes, he is receiving services at school on his IEP. I took him to his doctor due to the tantrums, hard time focusing at school, etc and this is what she recommended. sandi From: Sandee <jswinky@...>Subject: Re: [ ] Anyone have any feedback on Vyvanse Date: Tuesday, October 6, 2009, 1:54 PM More information is needed regarding your situation. Is your child receiving this medication as part of a "treatment plan?" Guest guest
It is very important that you take a look at the IEP to ensure that your child's needs are being appropriately addressed. I found out the hard way that tantrums is the easiest way for our children to communicate that something is " too hard " or " I need help " but could not ask for it. Just a parent to parent suggestion....take a look at the plan first, once all supports and services are in place, take a look at the medication. Usually if the medication needs adjusted so does the plan. From my own experience if the IEP and services are not appropriate medication does not have much of an impact. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I've got to ask you how do you convince the school that the meltdowns are a reflection of the IEP needing adjusted? We are also working on the medications via the psychiatrist because of the meltdowns. However the school does not want the suggestions that the IEP needs changed to come from me but from our Dr's. In fact they wanted me to sign a HIPPA so they could talk to all our Dr's. What do you suggest we do to prove to them the IEP is needs changed when the meltdowns are at home not school? Our Dr's don't seem too inerested in giving suggestions to the school. > > > From: Sandee <jswinkygmail (DOT) com> > Subject: Re: [ ] Anyone have any feedback on Vyvanse > @group s.com > Date: Tuesday, October 6, 2009, 1:54 PM > > > > > > > > More information is needed regarding your situation. > > Is your child receiving this medication as part of a " treatment plan? Guest guest
We have tried just about everything with our son.. including Vyvanse... The Vyvanse just brought out an aggressive side to him that we couldn't handle.. and after he pushed his sister into a wall, it was not worth it. The ritalin and adderall had just about the same effect.. he would calm down.. but then the tantrums would be worse when he had them, as well as mood swings. The agressiveness increased as well with each of the meds. Daytrona patch seemed to help at first but then he developed tics and acted like he was on " speed " he couldn't slow down, was harder to focus him and he would script in fast forward often repeating sentences over and over, so that had to go.. Talking with our psychiatrist.. she has said in all of her years of working with children on the spectrum, she has never had much luck finding ADHD meds that truly work... she feels is just the way the brains are wired.. Our son is currently on abilify... it has helped more than anything else he has taken... I wish you the best of luck finding something that works for you!
